A smile, a laugh is good medicine and helps to heal our hearts and minds that are hurting for so many of our Texas friends. My prayers continue for all of the people in Texas.

Toward the end of the Sunday service, the Minister asked, "How many of you have forgiven your enemies?" 80% held up their hands. The Minister then repeated his question. All responded this time, except one man, Walter Barnes. "Mr. Barnes, are you not willing to forgive your enemies?" "I don't have any!" he replied gruffly. "Mr. Barnes, that is very unusual. How old are you?" "Ninety-eight," he replied The congregation stood up and clapped their hands. "Oh, Mr. Barnes, would you please come down in front and tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years and not have an enemy in the world?" The old man tottered down the aisle, stopped in front of the pulpit, turned around, faced the congregation, and said simply, "I outlived all them assholes." Then he calmly returned to his seat.

Last evening at an appreciation barbecue for supporters, in a shelter in a large park beside the Thames River in our city of London, given by a local candidate in a recent campaign for election to our provincial parliament, in a lineup for a beef patty, one young man who had put a cheese slice on his open bun inadvertently dropped the cheese on to the floor. When he picked it up and put it on a pile of goods on a nearby table, I suggested, with laughter, that, as it had been less than five seconds on the concrete floor of this shelter ... ... it should be retreadable! He didn't think so! Well ... maybe one could take it home to give to the dog, then. He didn't consider that to be a worthwhile suggestion either. He dispatched it to a garbage can nearby. (I couldn't offer help ... as I don't have a dog ... and I'm sure that a cat would spurn such an offering). I used to live in that area, but moved out of the city over 10 years ago ... and still offer some support. The candidate won the seat, by the way. ole joyfuelled
