Well,Duh! This is something I think I have on my list of wants! Sometimes, I read about something, decide I want it because it is edible, then either haven't seen a picture or have forgotten what it looks like (head injury, short-term is shot, I tend to remember the plants I learned before the injury, but not the ones after so much). Bob, The ventral variations can often be due to intergrages between broods, clines of broods from different locations and between the sexes. Typically late spring/early summer individuals of this bug are generally clearer yellow/orange while late summer/fall broods are darker and can get all the way to brownish red or brick red ventrally in femlaes by the seasons last brood (again with lots of varying intergrades). Females are also normally darker and more heavily marked ventrally than males. I just had a female nicippe land about 3' from me yesterday, and she was typical of the females this time of year on the desert - a little darker and more heavily marked than your female. Later in the season here the females will be quite dark ventrally. Intergrades can be common in multibrooded species as can clines in widespread habitates where the species occurs. So when keying an individual out what usually works best is to look at the overall characteristics in comparison against those of other similar species in a given area. Usually that will point to one species more so than any other. The bulk of my SC is in storage, but I checked the Pierids drawers I have in the two cabinets I do have in the house to see if I could show you a comparison. No early or mid brood specimens of nicippe in these so they must be out in storage. But did find a pair of fall monsoon nicippe from Southern Arizona to give you an idea how these variations can change by which brood. HTH Larry

I'm going to mention the elephant in the room: the size of the pot bellied stove/fire place. It is very small. This is something that is seen in England. It is very common to have these tiny little fire places inserted these large gaps. It is one thing that drives me to drink. If you wish to update the area without looking at a new insert, then go ahead and jack out the tiles to the right of the stove. In other words you will KEEP the step into the firebox but you will remove the step (unnecessary) to the right of it. You will need to patch drywall and then choose a new tile, etc. The wood trim MATCHES the peach 'terracotta' inspired tiles. If you are updating the COLOUR of the flooring (which then clashes with peach) then you might as well go whole hog and rip/smash/tear right now. You will remove the stove and pipe (as much as you can). You will have the tile removed from the firebox. You will remove the 'step' from the right side of the box, patch the drywall and paint. Then you add the tile and then add the LVP. The step to the right is MEANT for wood stacks. If you aren't going to stack wood in that spot then you might as well get rid of it.
