Did they surprise you with how well they turned out? Which color do you have?

I'm glad they gave you great blooms before they got kicked out! This year I have been very happy with my roses that are new . Actually I have one that I thought would be stellar but it hasn't grown much and is very black spotty but it stays , jubilee celebration. The blooms are too pretty to get rid of .

I love Easy Does It but it sure black spots. It is a pain to keep it clean but when it's good it is very good.

Good question! This year it was Pink Peace. I originally thought it was an Ok pink except for the fragrance. However, it has been a champ this season - almost constant blooms and has held up to the heat and thrips. I have had countless bouquets inside and they last 3-5 days in a vase.

Another is Sweet Juliet. I was underwhelmed by it's first flush. The second flush was super fragrant with beautiful, delicate blooms. I so love being in the garden when the fragrance is strong. Love it.

Kristine, Dick Clark looks pretty! I have Cream Veranda and it's just a tiny little thing. It's blooming peachy but it's staying so compact the blooms don't really have stems. Is yours like this, too?

This is the fourth year Kristine that I have had Autumn Damask. I bought it based on the high rating on HelpMeFind, and it is said to have been present when our dear LORD Jesus walked the earth.

Initially the blooms were pretty but barely double and ordinary, not ravishing in the least. They have become larger, bright pink that stands out from across the yard, and the fragrance sometimes is very euphoric. I think it was Michael Shoup or one of the Michael nursery men that said it's fragrance was possibly the best of any rose.

What surprised me a few days ago is I noticed a bloom , full, round, with incurled petals around a button eye. That was worth waiting for, sorry I didn't get a photo.

I'm like Lilyfinch - I have hated Jubilee Celebration for a few years...no fragrance, puny blooms, flowers looked down, few flowers ... now I love it!!! The fragrance was the best in my whole garden today...swoon!!! It was extremely fragrant!! And the bush is covered in buds and roses, with nicely slightly arching branches. The roses face upwards and are large and stuffed with petals. It is absolutely stellar!!

Fragrant Plum. Of the five I have this one is a bully. Grows like there is no tommorow and flowers are very nicely perfumed. Though I really do not like that supersaturated pink.

How long do you want to go back on this one? I got Old Blush in the late 1990's ('98? '99?) It was planted in the driveway bed which, at the time, was the only spot I had for roses, or flowers of any kind. It was the first to blackspot, shed its leaves and just sit there the rest of the season. It sent up about one new cane a year, just to stay alive and the few blooms were modest, at best. It was nearly dead when I moved it to an east-facing bed behind our house last year as an experiment. It is still small but growing for the first time. No blackspot, even though pressure has been moderately high this year. It is rarely out of bloom. Even the blooms are prettier. Who knew???

A more recent one is Smiling Jean. I got this one 2 yrs. ago because it was supposed to be disease resistant, nearly thornless, and could take some shade. I had a spot for a rose like that and liked the bright coral blooms. While still in its pot, it promptly blackspotted and lost its leaves. The one bloom was pepto pink and it sent up one new cane, well armed with thorns. That fall I planted it where I had intended, hoping for better. The next year it became a one cane (with thorns) wonder, with an occasional pepto-pink bloom. I had to move a rose because it outgrew its spot by the path and put this one in its place. This year it's a different rose. It's growing well and no longer a one-cane wonder. No blackspot and rarely out of bloom, now truly coral pink. Still thorny- hopefully it won't get too big to be by the path!

Glad I waited on Madame Anisette and Earth Angel - both took their time but were totally worth it.

Lisa, 6 years, geeze you are patient. But I guess that is the point, patience can really paid off.

Berrypie, I love roses with a story. Can you imagine that that rose wad here when Jesus was, that is so cool. I would live Amazing Grace just because of the name.

Towandazz, my Cream Veranda was pitiful. Small white blooms. But now, larger blousy blooms.

Right now Rock and Roll is a dud. It had a few nice blooms in the spring but nothing since . The plant looks good although it hasnt grown much. It may need a new location with more direct sun.

Heritage. This is (I think) it's 5th year, and the first 4 years were unimpressive. Lots of pests, tall and scraggly, moderate numbers of blooms that shattered if I got within a couple of feet of them! I decided to give it one more year.

This year the pests have been a bit less (ironic since my other roses have had about 5x more pests than usual), it still gets tall but is a bit fuller, and it must have pumped out over 150 blooms for me and they aren't shattering as quickly as in previous years. There are currently about 50 blooms on it right now either open or ready to open soon. I even get to sniff them without them falling to pieces like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

I have a plant ordered as Bolero however it's never gotten a bloom and I don't believe it is bolero and if it doesn't get a bloom I may never know what it is

Portlandia! I was searching high and low for more info on it in the forums with little luck. It took ages to grow at all and the first bloom it put out was the tiniest, ugliest little thing lol it's finally putting out pretty little apricot/pink blooms around 3 1/2 inches across and has given me 4 new basals in the last 3 months

Some of you are so patient to wait years for a rose to develop. I feel like I'm an old woman and I want to see some instant gratification while I still have my eyesight so if it doesn't do well by year two it's out.

Here's a good example , Winchester Cathedral is an okay Rose . It seems to bloom fairly well nothing exciting about it kind of leggy canes it's not a wowza so it may be moved to a less prominent place.

I have fairly limited space as do some of you and if a rose isn't wowing me then I need to move it to someplace else and put something in that really does have the wow factor. And I know that is all really subjective everybody likes different colors and different styles of roses but if it doesn't make me stop and look at it then it needs to be someplace else.

Totally agree, I'm not as patient as some of you younger folks!

Glad to hear that Heritage can improve on the shattering. She's evergreen here so I'm moving all the ones around the house further out for landscaping. Every time I put her in the vase, she would explode!

So far, my roses that have started out disappointing, have stayed that way, at least in comparison to others.

Does anybody grow Love Potion? She hates it here but finally gave a tiny little flower that does have an intriguing fragrance. So I persevere.
