Random question about hoya ordering

Ok up until recently, I didn't have any problems with receiving parcels. However I had two parcels that apparently got lost or are stuck in Customs. There is a long wait in Customs apparently. It took a month and a half just to find out that the tracking numbers were invalid. Not to mention the frustration, stress and headaches of trying to get any answers and then getting refunds. I know that some things are beyond the seller's control when a parcel gets lost or is stuck in Customs. Things happen.

My question is: would you give the seller a second chance especially if they have hoyas that are on your wish list????? I'm sorry I'm just still a little wary after what happened. Any advice or help????

It depends on the seller and the reason the package was lost. There are only four international sellers that I trust overseas.

If your seller is not using EMS (Priority Express), then the package is more likely to be held in Customs for however long Customs wants to take. With EMS, the package should not take more than a week to arrive; if it does, contact USPS and then the Customs office the package is at or destined for.

If your seller is improperly declaring items (falsifying number of plants, calling plants household goods, not properly documenting the price of the goods, etc.), Customs can very well destroy the package.

If your seller is sending plants without phytosanitary certificates (and you will know if they are, because they will charge you for them), Customs has every right to destroy the package.

If your seller is sending the plants in dirt or any other non-approved media, or if the plants have been found to be infested with bacteria, fungus or pests upon an USDA inspection (packages are randomly pulled for USDA inspections), your package is likely to be destroyed.

If your seller cannot be bothered to double and triple check that the tracking number they gave you is correct, then you might not want to do business with them.

If you were able to track your packages, meaning you were able to see that they arrived at a US airport, then were "Inbound into Customs", then your tracking numbers were valid. Who is saying the tracking numbers were invalid? The parcel service used? Customs? The seller?

If the tracking number was invalid, how do you know it got stuck at Customs? Did they call you? Did you call them? How did they find the packages, if they did?

I would never do business with a seller who cannot be bothered to follow proper procedure regarding US import laws, nor wpuld I do business with a seller who cannot be bothered to assist me, should something go wrong, especially if they were at fault.

Thank you everyone for your responses! Sounds like so far I am doing everything right. I went to Lowes yesterday and spoke with the garden expert there, and she gave me some steps to replant a head. Like X said, I made a very sharp cut on a tiny little head near the trunk. Then, I removed several of the lower leaves on the head in order for it to be able to stick in the ground. I dipped it in rooting hormone, and planted it in a 4" clay pot with Miracle Grow Seed Starter soil. The garden person said to make a pencil hole in the soil before planting the head in order to keep the hormone powder in tact on the base. After sticking it in the hole, I gently pushed the soil around it to secure it in place. She also said that unlike mature plants, these little guys need plenty of water in order to grow roots and avoid root rot. I'll keep you posted on the progress of Gordito (Gordo is the name of the big ponytail b/c of the size of its foot)! :) Also, on the lighter colored leaves: The leaves that I am talking about are on the lower level of this branch. I am slightly afraid that it is not getting enough sun. How much full sun does it need per day? As of right now, it gets around 3 hours a day. I live in Kentucky, and my house is completely shaded by two huge maple trees. I have it sitting in front of a window that gets the most sun. Should I move it outside for the summer? He would get more sun on my front porch. However, how much sun do they need in the winter. Being cool and dry won't be a problem, but I'm worried about the sun issue. Thanks again guys! Kelly the colour on those Hoya pubicalax 'Bright One' blooms is awesome, much more red than my 'Pink Silver'. Hoya pubicalax is a pretty common species now but like Hoya carnosa I think it will become one of the classic Hoyas that everyone loves and for good reason. Golden my Hoya sp Sulawesi GPS 8860 is still just a cutting but it has flowered twice already. I accidentally let it dry out a while back and the three peduncles it had fell off. I think it has about three new growth points right now so this is definitely a fast grower. The reason I got this Hoya is because I read that it is one of the most prolific flowering species and it blooms early with many peduncles forming along the stems. I found a photo of a larger plant on the web, mine is not very impressive yet. I bought this cutting off of ebay and it was removed from a well established plant right before shipping. I was lucky enough that they sent me a cutting with a peduncle already on it. My other cutting is smaller, with no peduncle, but it already has new growth. Two new leaves that are just about the same size as the older, more established leaves and some other smaller leaves. I do have other larger hoyas that have never bloomed yet. Honestly, sometimes I think someone should just start a basic hoya Q & A thread. I do get on here and read quite a bit to learn, but sometimes I just think of random questions to ask and don't want to start a new thread for my little question.
