Cool, Kelly! I now can't wait for my 'Iris Marie' to bloom. And my 'Bright One' is budding, so I hope you'll post a photo when those blooms are completely open.

Wow you got some great shots!!!! I really like that light purple hoya, haven't heard of that one I dont think.

Nancy, I once had mine do the same thing for me a couple years ago and nothing since!!! That's crazy. They smell so good too. I think I had mine in the little greenhouse all winter the year mines did and fertilized all winter. I am trying the same thing again this year. I will take a photo for you on the one I started from that very plant , the momma you have there)) There si something about yours that just makes me smile so much. Thank you for sharing. The temps not so bad yesterday 70 here. Crazy. Still I have many annuals just pushing growth in pots but after this weekend it will be the end.((( Mike

Denise, your villosa looks like it has huge dark leaves! Pretty! I'm waiting for mine to decide to grow. I think it is reserving judgment as to whether or not it likes it here. Mike, how's the LED panel working out for that case? Any recent pics? My original terrarium is having issues. Mainly, it's those darn snails. Well, not exactly. I have these teeny tiny little pindot shiny black insects crawling around. They seem to appear en masse. At first I thought they were nothing, but now I believe they are juvenile bush snails. I can't say for certain, which is why I say not exactly, but I do notice things start looking crappy after they show up, and then I start seeing a snail or two. I'm pretty sure snails don't just pop up out of nowhere, they have to be baby snails first. They are not, however, in the terrarium in the pics above. GG, my terrariums (I have three) are in my room. The one pictured above is on top of my dresser. I used to put my makeup and such on top of my dresser, until I realized I always put my makeup on at my desk. And that terrarium needed a home. So up on the dresser it went. It is much easier to care for up there. It used to be on my floor, and that was a huge pain. It was also not set up at all when it was on the floor. Just a place to put some cuttings. I needed a place for my deflasked Aerangis modesta seedlings to graduate to, and this was perfect. (By the way, anyone grow Aerangis species orchids? Need an Aerangis modesta? I have 20!) Anteater was my first strep. I had a bunch, and then got super busy with work and lost them all. I loved Anteater though, so last year, I got myself a new one. This one took a loooong time to get going, and I actually thought I'd lose this one, but it came back, and is doing alright.

Your Hoya could be either Hoya verticillata, parasitica or acuta and many people claim that these species are all synonymous. Hoya verticillata would be the proper accepted name and this species can have different coloured flowers and leaves with markings, veins, no visible veins, a visible central vein or midrib as in your plant and varying leaf thicknesses. Indeed, the hemlock wooly adelgid is a terrible evil. Those tags look nice! I've considered getting some, but they'd be more for the infrequent guests than myself. @Paul, how many references would you like that flat out state eradication efforts directed at black currants were part of federal and state efforts? White Pine are native, but NOT naturally occurring in my area but exist only as ornamental plantings (too far south). These efforts were more to protect an industry that brought this disaster than to protect the magnificent Pinus strobus itself. This isn't about being "that guy" erroneously "railing" against anything in a self-idealized notion of what I've imagined. What you've done in my mind's eye currently is equal to telling someone they're directly responsible for a RRD infection happening because they planted a Knock Out despite feral R. multiflora all around (and it's not even responsible itself!) and that's tragic to me. I think that one is also referred to as sp sulawesii? Smallest flowers I've seen a hoya yet!

Incredible photos, Kelly!

My Iris Marie just had to be restarted due to the plant drying out too much. You know the saying: poop happens!

Do you have your Iris Marie in really strong light? I have my plant in the most light I can give it (West window) and it still looks like it needs more light. I may just pitch the plant if it doesn't look like it's going to do anything since I am so strapped for space. Can't let the non-performers stay around too long.

I really struggled with Iris Marie for about a year - I think it was the same issue you're having. When I first started messing around with hydroton last year I cut Iris Marie up, shoved in the hydroton and it's grown non-stop since. It's bloomed 4 times despite having just two peduncles. I LOVE it now! It stays in a southern window with a sheer curtain. It's definitely been one of hydroton success stories!

Thanks for that bit of info! I am betting that I have been growing my Iris Marie way too dry (obviously!) (:o)

There is a Hydroponic store in the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities that carries Hydroton and I think I'm going to go up there and get some.

I am going to be getting some hoya cuttings from a David Liddle order and I can use the Hydroton to root those as well. Just about everyone that has commented on Hydroton has had positive things to say about the product and the good results they have received from using it.

Beautiful photos Kelly.

I wonder if your small flowered Hoya is Hoya sp Sulawesi GPS 8860. This species is supposed to be closely related to Hoya tomataensis, there is also Hoya sp Sulawesi GPS 8845 that is similar and it looks like it tends to have darker coloured flowers.

Here is my Hoya sp Sulawesi GPS 8860, the flowers really are tiny!

Lovely photos, I like it all.
Mine, iris marie is growing growing non stop since I cut some for trade, very healthy but no sign of flower yet. I gave it at least 3h morning sun, blooming buster too. I hope 1 day it will.

Mike your Hoya sp Sulawesi is Gorgeous! But I wondered if it was possible for you to take an actual photo of the whole plant so I - or we - could see what the leaves and plant looks like. sometimes I consider purchasing a plant but its nice to see what the actual plant - foliage looks like! Thanks so much - if its not too much trouble! :0) Golden

Kelly the colour on those Hoya pubicalax 'Bright One' blooms is awesome, much more red than my 'Pink Silver'. Hoya pubicalax is a pretty common species now but like Hoya carnosa I think it will become one of the classic Hoyas that everyone loves and for good reason.

Golden my Hoya sp Sulawesi GPS 8860 is still just a cutting but it has flowered twice already. I accidentally let it dry out a while back and the three peduncles it had fell off. I think it has about three new growth points right now so this is definitely a fast grower. The reason I got this Hoya is because I read that it is one of the most prolific flowering species and it blooms early with many peduncles forming along the stems.

I found a photo of a larger plant on the web, mine is not very impressive yet. If you are interested this Hoya came from Paul Shirley and was one of the plants collected by him on the island of Sulawesi.

Interesting - my Hoya sp Sulawesi GPS 8845 (listed above as salweenica) is just a tiny little thing as well! obviously an early bloomer!

I don't think it is the same as Red Buttons. I have that one as well, but it's not flowered yet. Bought both off of ebay from cowboyflowerman. I think the flowers on Red Buttons may be darker?

If the 8860 is anything like the 8845 the leaves get a beautiful redness to them with more light!
