The dining room dilemma
Comments (14)I agree that you should get rid of the chair rail (too predictable and traditional) and go with a rich, deep blue or purple. Either would set off your furniture (which I love, btw) and ramp up the 'wow' factor for the entire room. I would also go with a modern chandelier in nickel or silver-tone and lower it. Oh, and I would probably consider painting the banister and newel post to match the balusters. The current look strikes me as more country which does not appear to be your style. Comments (2)Please clarify this statement... "I like more war, colors like the beige or light tan to coordinate with each other." Also it is hard to recommend colors without some idea of the space and how the rooms relate to each other. Do you have a floor plan, sketch or pictures that you can post to help us give you ideas? Whole house open concept or 3 separate rooms with doors or clearly defined separations for different colors of paint. Also what color & type of flooring, furniture, cabinets, rugs, art etc... Comments (11)Your floors are beautiful! If they’re original hardwood you might consider keeping them. Those floors are like blue jeans, they can be dressed up or down and they go with practically everything.. I like mirrors but you could minimize the items on your buffet. I think sconces would look very nice on either side of the mirror. You can hardwire them in or just get a beautiful pair that hold pillar candles in maybe a hurricane glass. If you’re getting a rug, don’t paint until you see how the colors reflect onto the wall. You may decide the room doesn’t need paint after all. Lastly, if you decide to paint the uppermost part of your tray ceiling, how about a soft blue? I did that in my dining room and wish I did my bedroom as well. It’s so pretty! Definitely adding that next time I paint. Good luck with your project!...See MoreRose Schlosser
