A car accident... Enough is enough!
Comments (34)So sorry to hear about this - how frustrating! This sounds like my kind of luck. May of this past year, we hit a deer, which totaled our van. We searched forever for a good used van (since the insurance company didn't give us much for ours - it was older, but in mint condition). Our financial situation is not in a position to add another monthly payment. Finally in August we found one that "worked" - although we weren't sure about buying a Chevy. But I needed one by fall, when my craft shows started, so we decided to get it. We got it on Sunday afternoon and Monday I drove it to town and got whammed in the rear end. We hadn't even had the title work done yet. I was sick. But it was fixable and I wasn't hurt - so it all worked out. So glad Carol wasn't hurt anymore than she was - been there done that - triple Advil every 4-6 hrs. was the dr. advice for me - that is prescription strenth. We got hit with 8 or more inches of snow this weekend and as we were shoveling/clearing the drive/sidewalks, I asked my husband if he could imagine climbing on the roof and shoveling it! We just replaced that roof 2 summers ago and I will attest that it was SCAREY being up there when it was dry, let alone snow covered and slippery! I can't even imagine. Hang in there - spring is just around the corner! Arlene...See MoreUpdate on DB accident
Comments (9)I'm glad to hear that so far, there are no serious injuries, but do warn them to be very vigilant for the next few weeks. DD was rear-ended some years ago, went to the ER, had X-rays, everything was fine and she was sent home. Within a couple of weeks, though, she developed a herniated disk--she'll have pain and problems from it the rest of her life. Secondly? if they haven't yet, they need to turn this all over to their lawyer--they've got enough to worry about without dealing with the insurance companies. We were at our lawyer's first thing the morning after DD's accident, and it was the best thing we did--we didn't have to look at the many medical bills, or talk to the insurance company, and DD got way more than she'd have gotten on her own. And these things take years to settle, if done correctly. It's just a huge hassle no one needs....See Moreoccasional wetting accidents
Comments (12)gardenut - I don't see the age of Belle, is she a puppy? I would put her back in the crate to start with. Reinforce her training. If you haven't already done so, get a urine from her and take to your vet to analyze. More difficult with a female dog. Just take an old lid to a tupperware container and slip it under her from behind when she squats. Then put the sample in the container matching the lid you used. They don't need alot of urine to check it. My old girl has had UTI several times throughout her life. If she is leaking, she won't squat to do it. My oldest lab came with a zillion issues, one being that she has a leaky bladder. She just leaks if she doesn't take her PPA or Propalin, I am assuming this is what the poster above was referring to. My gal never squatted to pee in the house, I just noticed a small puddle when she would get up from lying/sitting down. Is it possible that she just isn't fully potty trained yet? I would be hesitant to give my dog a med before I ruled out the incidents just being accidents or UTI. My youngest lab had accidents for the entire first year we had him. I thought I was going to go out of my mind. I took him out regularly and did everything possible, but he was just hard to train. He is fully trained now thank the Lord above. He would look just look at the door, I would be right behind him to open the door and he would stand there and start to pee. Frustrating. I cleaned up more pee accidents in 2004 than I care to remember. He just didn't catch on, where everyone else had caught on fully by the third month at the latest. Usually having more than one dog helps, the puppy just follows the other dogs' behavior. I think sometimes they just forget and get caught short while in the house. How long have you had her? What kind of dog is she? My two boys go out for last call at around 9, if I am up late, I will put them out again after the news. My old gal is more like 7:30 p.m. She wants to get upstairs and go to bed! She's going to be 12 and when I say to her "do you want to go out", her ears perk up and she follows me to the door (of course, I have to speak loudly now since her hearing is going). She knows that after she goes out and does her business she will get to go upstairs and lie on her comfy dog bed. Everybody goes out around 5:30 or 6:00 a.m. on weekdays, sometimes not till 8 a.m. on weekends if am lucky. The go out first thing, then come in for breakfast and then back out about a 1/2 hr. later and then in till 2. I don't go out with them, we don't go to the park, we don't take long walks, etc. Of course, there have been incidents few and far between where somebody gets the runs and makes a mess. Different situation. But for the most part, on the days I go to the office they stay in the house from 7 until 2 with no potty breaks. Best of luck and keep us posted!...See MoreHorrible, horrible night
Comments (22)"I'm just incredulous that the police didn't think getting punched in the nose is not assault simply because the victim avoided a broken nose" YEP. I am actually more pissed about it, the more time that goes by. I don't really know what BM said to the police because they talked to me inside and she was out in the driveway. I know she was claiming I HIT HER first which pisses me off because I didn't hit her AT ALL. I covered my face with my hands and ran! LOL. Even SS saw everything that happened and was screaming/crying at his mom to not hurt me. TRUST ME, as loyal as he is to her, if I had hit her, he would have been yelling at ME. But according the cops--it's a "domestic issue" and they told me it's always he said/she said. It also made me angry because one of the cops (there were, like 6 or 7 of them) said "well, if she is so drunk, why'd you let her in the house?" UGH. I let her in and didn't call the police to avoid a SCENE like the one we had! Granted, in hindsight, I shouldn't have let her in--but she was sobbing at the backdoor and then SS SAW her. :( It all worked out really badly. I did the best I could under the circumstances. That one cop was kind of rude to me, I thought, but the others were all pretty nice. The last one to leave did tell me that I have 6 months to press charges. He didn't really say I should or shouldn't, but just said it was an option but that in domestic situations, it is hard to get anything to stick. I am angry the police were not more helpful to ME. MY house, MY driveway, MY yard--she's DRUNK, and I'm SOBER, taking care of two children. Let's see.....who is in the wrong here?...See MoreChi
