Have you ever been disappointed in a project?
Comments (12)Lots of times!! I made my DS's 1st birthday cake & it ended up with plastic train on it. I was glad it was only family seeing it!! I took lessons on cake decorating & got so I made all the cakes for weddings, showers etc at church. Crafting or decorating is learning how & having a good eye & sometimes even that doesn't work. If you have some 20 or 24 gauge wire & some beads(old necklace that broke etc) you could put about 8 wires with beads every inch with a loop on both sides of bead going across leave center area plain& wire on heart thereby filling in the heart kind of like a spider web but nicer, where wires all meet in center of heart add a couple of 1/2 marbles 1 to each side, Put a wire on top & hang in the wind for a sun catcher!! I was given some afghans to finish by GF's husband after she died. Well, she was right handed & I'm left, normally not a problem only I was supposed to start where I usually end. I had to find friends to make them up & they did & used them. If I had refused them, her hubby would have thrown them away. My crochet looks different but I wasn't going to throw them out. They were more than 1/2 done with the rest of yarn to match. Now they all remember Lora Mae every time they cuddle up in winter. I got some other things I could use & did. So it turned out well. You can use any color on the wires, about 4 beads to each wire, 2 before center(leave free for the 1/2 marble to be glued on) 2 going to far side of heart. About 32 beads total!! Good luck in whatever you do with it! Jan...See MoreWhat *PROJECTS* have you been involved in this year?
Comments (52)Papou, I am fairly new on this forum, and I remember one of the first things I did was open your website. I was stunned with the amount of beauty and information on it and was actually looking forward to winter when I would have it to study and enjoy during my "down time". As I was calmly reading this thread last night, I was stunned when I got to your announcement. I am devastated with the news of your health. However, I stopped believing diagnosises years ago. I had colon cancer in 1987 and breast cancer in 2000, and I'm still going strong. We have so many meds and procceedures that are continually being updated and improved, and I know your doctor will do the very best for you. In fact my Oncologist told me that they now treat so many cancers as a chronic illness. We are not willing to give up your pictures, information, and enthusiasm as well as the wonderful calm dignity you always project in your posts. I love your new porch addition, and your prize hosta growing along your new steps. Stay busy, stay in touch, and God Bless You. We only have one Papou, and you are our treasure. I hope all our prayers will bring you comfort. Your fellow Hosta lover, Mary....See MoreLavender has been a Disappointment
Comments (13)Lavender does not like being moved around. I have had great luck with lavender until 2 years ago when we had over 50 " of rain. I was out of the country and I came back to mildew and I cut it back and it was alright. I then cut the rest back in January. WRONG!!!!! But then we had half our normal rain, 13" total the next year. I think the rains rotted the deep roots on some and they then did not have a way to get the moisture when they needed it. I had some death. I have had them for 6 years so I bought more plants and layered some branches. I love that spanish lavender. I ain't giving up on it yet. It is about the only thing that grows in the rocky gravel without water. I don't water plants , or hardly at all, so I expect some death occasionally. Right now the spanish lavender is COVERED in blooms and bees next to the vibrant coral gregii....See MoreWhat have been your hits and misses this year for annuals?
Comments (27)Love the salvia! One of my favorites annuals! like rosaprimula, my garden season has turned out to be dreadful! Early spring was quite cool but late spring held so much promise, and I thought my garden was going to be great this year. But then the heat and drought hit, and even my established shrubs are drying up, crisping up, and turning brown. So I've had to let a lot of my annuals go (the ones that actually did anything lol!). I am keeping my dahlias alive, and trying to give some water to my zinnias and cosmos at the least. Rouge, I grew something similar to the cyperus years ago, in a water garden I think. I really enjoyed it even though it never looked nearly as good as yours! And your impatiens look great. I took the plunge this year also, after YEARS of not buying any, which was difficult as these were my go-to annuals due to my shade. I bought Beacon White, as the Beacon series are supposed to be mildew resistant. I like to edge my beds with the white ones. I've had mixed results. At first I was worried they had indeed been hit with the mildew, but now I think it may have been gardener error. I still don't know if I gave them too little or too much water - it's odd how some are thriving and others are not, even though I bought them at the same time, in the same tray, and they are pretty much in the same conditions, right next to each other. I'll try again next year. I love yours and I love the shape of that maple. So lovely! Iowa blooms I hope you are enjoying your zinnias. Mine are a hot mess right now (literally lol) but I'm trying to keep them alive and hoping for better results when the weather cools (and if we ever get any rain ever again!) :) Dee...See Morencrealestateguy
