Does anyone take any Superfood supplements?

I've just been told about a supplement called Moringa. It's a tree from the India/Himilayans and more. It's fast gaining popularity in the States.

The leaves can be eaten raw in salads, or dried and sold in powder or capsules and used in smoothies, salad dressings etc.

It has many many health benefits and I'm thinking of getting some for both of us, I'm not sure which company to buy from, as from what I see when noodling around, I can get it from Amazon, vs in a local health-food store.

Have you heard of it, or use it?

Uh.....noooooooo.....there'a a cheezy radio ad extolling it's benefits.

In the "States" people are eating less beef and pork, incorporating more leafy greens into their diets. Superfoods, not a trend here.

I think Superfoods are definitely a trend here, though maybe it depends on which state. Stroll through Whole Foods and you'll see them everywhere. Acai, goji berries, chia and hemp seeds, kefir, wheatgrass, kale, maca, quinoa, broccoli sprouts, etc. Those are some of the trendier ones but I've also heard it referred to especially nutrient rich everyday food like blueberries and salmon.

Jasdip, I haven't heard of that particular one but I would definitely talk to your doctor/oncologist before taking any supplements. It might interfere with medications.

Well, the plants are few and far between, but the ones I do have are profuse and beautiful! I'm in a similar situation - our 1905 home was in the same family from the 1920s until 2004. I was fortunate enough to talk to a man that grew up in the house, and he told me that his grandmother was the gardener in the family. She died in 1943, so my roses and irises are at least that old! He said that as a kid he hated mowing around the roses and tried his darnedest to kill them, so I know they're hardy and carefree! The only other things that I've been able to identify are grape hyacinths and pachysandra, both of which are a little invasive around here and weren't necessarily planted on purpose. I actually just took some pictures today. I think the white roses are sombreuil climbing roses (though they don't have anything to climb on), but I don't know what the pinks are. I have used black and white film a lot lately. We've been buying the Kodak 400 35 mm black and white film that you can get at Wal-Mart. We've been taking mostly scenery pictures (tip...scenery looks much better on a semi-cloudy day) and have started taking a few of the kids. I'm really happy with the results...key is to be sure the light is right, and that you have a good camera. We have a Nikon with a zoom lens (forgive me I can't remember the model...we just bought it..LOL) and it takes really nice pictures. I think I will probably do more black and whites just because I love the old-fashioned look they give my scrapbooks. Have fun! Becky T.

Iron. Here's something I've had experience with recently. There's so many things so many people do NOT know about iron. For instance: - Yes, cast iron pans give the food iron. But some things detract from the body absorbing the iron so it's equally important to not prevent the body from using what you're giving it, whether it's a supplement or from food or food preparation. - Eggs contain phosvitin and that inhibits the absorption of iron. So do other vitamins. So if you take iron supplements do not take them at the same time as other, such as a multi-vitamin. - Other items inhibit iron absorption: Calcium (so watch your milk, cheese and similar intake), tea, coffee, whole grains, excess fiber... and more. Your diet is important to the effectiveness of medications and supplements. - Vitamin C, however, HELPS the body absorb iron. So that's something that's good to take with the iron supplement. - Many iron supplements will cause your stool to turn black. Blood in the intestines can also, among other things. So know the difference. It can be quite a surprise if you're not aware of it. And when I first saw this after the blood-in-stool issues from before, it's a slap in the face waker-upper. (My GF and sister were about to call 911! LOL) - Medications can work with each other or against each other. DO YOUR RESEARCH! Doctors don't know everything, nor do they tell you everything.

Did the juice type help your issues? And does it seem to help like the gluc/chon? I used to take the gluc/chon/MSM for a lot of years. I just got to the point with all the other meds I had to take for a while, it was too much to take the two horse pills so I switched to MoveFree Ultra which is one little pill once a day. Seems to work as well and much easier to swallow. I didn't experience the g/i issues you mentioned though. I also started to take ginger and curcumin turmeric which also seem to help some too and is not very expensive.

Chi, for that exact reason, I'm not going to jump on anything right away, if ever. I was told about this Moringa last nite by a neighbour who's concerned about hubby. She said that her friend had a cancer tumour shrink from using it.

Over the years, there have been all kinds of 'snake oil' claims....goji berries, that liquid whose name escapes me, from Hawaii a decade or more ago, and on and on. Next month, it'll be another miracle cure.

According to this friend of a friend, she gets emails from Moringa and the government is pulling it off the shelves and the price is going to jump to $600??!! So if anyone is using it, stock up!!! :-)

Oh yes the miracle cures. I think it's sad, especially getting someone's hopes up that a supplement can cure them. I do think nutrient-rich food has powerful preventative and healing properties but not to the extent of these claims. Taking anything in concentrated form can be dangerous as well.

Years ago, I had a co-worker tell me smoking weed was a cure for cancer. She didn't have cancer and didn't know anyone personally who'd been cured....

I remember when bee pollen was gonna build BIG muscle....the claims just dry up....

I'm sorry your interested in finding miracle cancer cures. I wish you didn't need to look...
