Favorite cupped Hosta?
Comments (18)Fay, your Nippers is a lot more tender looking than mine. Perhaps mine was more beatup by the hot summer? Here it is and I had another shot of it with a couple of other smaller tough guys. Let me see if that is on Flickr too. Yeah, here it is with Rhino Hide and King Of Spades! (If you do not have King OF Spades, it is a nice companion for Nippers.....and Rhino Hide can stand alone anywhere.) And for another cupped hosta, with a lot of substance AND white backs, take a look at the Stuart Asch hosta Stiff Upper Lip. Stiff Upper Lip...See MoreHosta ID Stained Glass hosta?
Comments (7)Me too. If you haven't planted it in the ground yet, I would advise you not to. Where did you get the plant? I think they need to be advised, and you might want to get a refund if you can return it still in its nursery pot. That collapsed tissue at the tip of the leaf and ink bleeding at the top of the picture shows on all of the visible leaves. I would suspect the plant would be considered advanced HVX infected. I AM SURE YOU MIGHT APPRECIATE MORE CONFIRMATION THAN JUST hh AND MY OPINIONS B4 ACTING ON THEM, and I think it will come on this posting. Sorry Lunaria. It's too bad your post is bringing such bad news. If you are unfamiliar with HVX (Hosta Virus X) just Google it and you will come up with a lot, including many pictures showing the symptoms your plant exhibits, how to deal with it, how to prevent its spread, etc. Us Peeps here on Hosta Forum get the creeps even typing HVX. Comments (18)That's a really good point, Phil. I have some day lilies that bloom for , what, three weeks? All the remaining weeks of the spring and Fall, I have to look at that boring, sometimes downright ugly foliage? Having mostly shade, I rely on Astilbe for most of my flowers. But as soon as astilbe blooms reach "peak", they start to look rather blah, IMO. Literally, you have a day to enjoy peak bloom, unless you're into the dried flower look. The more I think about it, I am amazed EVERYONE isn't crazy about hosta. I was looking at Liberty today and it struck me that it looked as pretty as a bouquet of flowers....See MoreWhich hosta would you advise hosta friends to stay away from?
Comments (59)Well, I LOVE them ALLL. I have to say there is not a one that I wouldn't mind having. I do have to say that Color Glory done very will for me as all the others did (SO FAR). And, yes there are some that aren't as pretty as other but I tend to find something that I like about every hosta that I have. So, if I had to pick one it would be Frances Williams. She is an awesome hosta - doesn't burn for me looks great! She tends to stay for a couple years and leaves me. I HAD Colory Glory which was beautiful until the stinking, no good for nothing VOLES had it for a midnight snack along with Spilt Milk, Independence and countless other. OH and Thunder Bolt. Boy, I was MAD on that one. I do agree that hosta loves what it loves and they can tend to be spoilt. Anyway, I also have a question. Have any of you tried the Castor Oil remedy for VOLES?...See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
