If it were my plant, I would move that pot away from the wood pile first and see its reaction giving it as much sun as can be provided. I used to have a wood pile just like yours in corner of yard next to our old wooden fence. The wood started to decay and have spots of fungus growing on it as i could not use it fast enough. Also it would stay damp in that area very damp all the time. In my opinion the tree is in a very humid damp area in that location. At night i bet the leaves get a heavy dew on them having plant there. Try moving container away from that area and see its reaction and make sure the soil in container does not stay damp for long periods of time, get rid of the bad looking leaves. Yes it looks like FMV on that leaf pictured but usually its on more than 1 leaf on a whole plant. If you do this and it does not work then the chemical route whichever that may be might have to be used if it keeps spreading afterwards. I do not use any chemicals other than fertilizer if possible. Others may have ideas as well, this is something i personally would try first. Martin

Kalanchoe are champs as long as they're not in a peaty boggy situation. Looks like you've definitely got some stem rot (the black). Odds are that it's in a peat substrate and it's been staying too wet (perhaps it's the same mix the plant came in?). Looks like you do have some viable parts that will reroot, though. All the black/mushy will need to be cut away with a sharp sterilized knife to leave only firm green tissue. Store the clean cuttings in a brightly lit and dry area until roots appear (in about 1-2 weeks) and then repot into a fast draining mix in a 4" terra cotta pot. Then water sparingly or simply mist the leaves for a few weeks until roots are well established. It also looks like it's not getting sufficient light since it's rather pale and etiolated. These guys like lots of light so I'd choose a brighter window space for it once it's established roots and then move it outside for maximum happiness after your last frost date. Good luck! There is only one degree of dead, and it's a permanent thing. That the decline began after the repot (did you actually repot, or did you pot up?) might be a hint. If the plant was getting too much water before the work, the added soil that is not colonized by roots would exacerbate the problem. When you can't identify the problem, you should consider making sure you have the basics covered. That your plant IS in decline is indicative the plant is being asked to tolerate conditions it's not programmed to tolerate - that's a given. You need to make sure you're watering effectively and in a timely manner. IOW, you should be sure the entire soil mass is being moistened when you water, that you're flushing the soil when you water, and you're not watering until the plant needs it. Are you monitoring soil moisture levels or guessing when it's time to water? You should also flush the soil thoroughly the next time it needs water. Do this by slowly pouring a volume of room temp water through the soil = to at least 10x the volume of the pot. This is like hitting the fertilizer 'reset' button. After flushing the soil, you can fertilize with an appropriate fertilizer. My goal would be to help the plant increase it's vitality to the point it will tolerate a full repot; then, I would repot it into a soil that allows you to water appropriately. In more than 90% of the cases we see here, poor root health is the underlying cause, so that's where I'd look for the solution. Too, there's nothing stopping you from lifting the plant from the pot so you can evaluate the condition/health of the root system. Al

Tiffany, thanks. You are right, that stem was quite healthy. I didn't plan on rooting it, but saw leaves starting to grow, so I stuck it in the pot :) Mariam Did you water the cuttings? If so, they likely started to rot. No roots - no water. I would do as Tiffany suggested. Also, cut it just below the collar, do not leave so much of fleshy stem (that part rots much faster). Make sure there are no black marks of any kind left where the cut is made - these are leftowers of rot and damage will continue. If you see any, keep cutting. It may take longer than couple of weeks for roots to start growing, be patient. And do not pull the plant out of mix, that could damage any tiny roots starting.
