digging them up again
Comments (7)I try to get to them before a hard freeze but don't always make it. If they get hit with a hard freeze I cut them way back because the stem gets mushy but the roots are fine. With the sunken pots I just trim away whatever roots have grown outside the container and lift. I strip all foliage and usually cut them back to about 10" then put them in storage. With the ones planted directly inground I try to dig up about a 10" rootball then pot it up and cut back. The ones in pots (above ground) just get the foliage stripped and cut back. I used to allow my variegated brugs, culebras, etc to keep growing over the winter but I let them to go dormant now and don't cut them back. I just strip the foliage and they do fine the following spring. Some of my slower to bloom varieties don't get cut back too much but all get the foliage stripped and all my brugs go dormant....See MoreDigging in the yard again .... grrrr
Comments (32)How is not telling them personal information about your marriage lying to them? It's not like someone is making up a fabrication of why they divorced. Do you really think that children should know everything that goes on in their parents marriage? I don't because I believe that to be more scarring. I experience that first hand. TOS: If your argument holds any water, then my husband should tell his children that the reason he divorced their mother is becuase she is a mean person, a liar, a thief, and who was abusive to her children, her husband, and her family. I don't think that they could possibly benefit from that information. As a matter of fact, I can guarantee that if my DH told his sons that information, they would be very upset, and it would affect their relationship with their mother in a very negative way. It's not our job to highlight their mother's shortcomings, but to foster a positive relationship with her. So rather than tell them what they probablly already know about their mother (kids are very smart), we foster a positive environment for them to grow their relationship with her. See, if you tell children things that are personal and private about your relationship with the other parent, you are opening up a can of worms called "he said, she said" and the only one's who get hurt, are the kids. They get put in the middle of a war of words. If my DH told his boys all their mother's transgressions, she would lose it, and potentially say untrue, mean things about their father in order to "defend" herself and he actions. And that wouldn't be good for anybody. I just don't see how that could possibly be in the best interest of the children. Trust me, there are times where my DH has been tempted to say something to the kids. I've gone so far as to discuss this with our family counselor, who said that by sharing that information with the kids will only burden them, and make them feel worse and unloved by their mother. I just don't buy that it could do any good....See MoreBare root comes replaces wrong-color one in ground: dig it now? Wait?
Comments (0)I received a bare root peony to replace one I had bought previously that was the wrong color. The wrong-color peony is also much taller than the others in the arrangement. The one I need to pull out has buds, though. I want to move it to where the color won’t matter, not kill it. What’s the best time for doing this? I’m thinking fall has been said before. While I wait, should I pot up the bare-root one? It’s going to an extra step to then have to plant in the ground again, but I know a bare-root plant can’t wait long. I’d hoped it would arrive before much growth on the one in the ground occurred, but we had an early spring, and that didn’t happen. Can I expect a growth set back from essentially planting the bare root one twice? The bare root is putting out leaves....See Moretree lilac leaves curing up with yellow/red spots?
Comments (4)by this time of year.. in my MI .. im not much concerned by ugly leaves ... they will be falling off soon enough .... and as such.. whats the use of treating them???? this type of leaf issue.. could still be related to the stresses of planting.. and whatever ma nature threw at it this summer .. btw .... my regular lilac showed some level of drought issues a few weeks back.. and they look a lot worse than yours does ... and im not concerned about mine ... it would not hurt.. to dig a few holes by hand.. and confirm proper water at depth ... and a good drink in fall sure wouldnt hurt.... just to make sure it goes into winter full of water ... ken ps: at least its not mildewed ......See Morekrmarchese
