lp smart siding vs. hardi-plank
Comments (1)Smart siding is still a composite siding...it is made of glued sawdust. I "wood" not use it....See MoreHardie plank siding plus trim
Comments (1)There is vinyl, and then there is premium vinyl. The best vinyl soffit has hidden slotted vents that can't be seen from the ground, and the material is thick. It works well and looks good, provided you get a good color match. Don't accept any other soffit material in vinyl. I'm not sure about the aluminum rake and facia boards. $2,500 for all Hardie sounds reasonable, depending on how many linear feet are involved. It's certainly not way out of line....See MoreHardie plank vs cedar shingles
Comments (8)If you want to do cedar siding, I'd highly recommend installing a rainscreen behind it. This allows it to dry out from the backside and helps it hold paint and resist rot much better than siding applied directly up against the tyvek and sheathing. Several companies make premade rainscreens (Benjamin Obdyke's Homeslicker is one of them) but it's also simple to do one yourself with furring strips. The trick is to make sure the flashing and trim are done correctly to accomodate the depth of the rainscreen - the benjamin obdyke website has good diagrams to show you how it should be done....See MoreHardiePlank Lap Siding with Insulation
Comments (5)I'm not presenting a case against the siding,James Hardie is a top rung product. I find it interesting they give those reasons when their siding is already one of if not the most impact resistant siding on the market. I have used their Stucco Texture soffit as underpinning with less than reccomended framing behind it and been pleased with appearance. If cost is comparable to installing origional product with conventional insulation,I am a fan of JH and would certainly consider using it. If I had to pay a premum I might hesitate if those were the only benifits....See Moretrickyputt
