Toddler pattern sizes
Comments (6)I'm very fortunate, or crazy, depending on how you want to look at it. I still have almost every pattern I ever used for my daughters when they were little, and my mom just handed me patterns that she had used for them, too. (She no longer had the ones she used for me as a little girl, because of a big move we'd made when I was 12. I still have the teenaged-me patterns, though. Those are FUNNY, from the 70s!) Checking today's patterns for toddlers, they haven't changed that much -- except for the prices!!!!!! Donna...See Moredress pattern sizing - related to ready-to-wear?
Comments (4)I think the measurements are pretty close, but keep an open mind when you look at what size it says you are. LOL. I bought some patterns last year after not sewing clothing for twenty years. I am into quilting now and ran across some gorgeous material on sale I wanted to translate into blouses. I wear a fourteen off the rack because I am larger busted even though not heavy anywhere else. So, I cut out the pattern for a fourteen. OMGosh I am sitting here laughing. I think eighteen would have been a much better guess. I have been sewing since childhood so went on to alter the pattern and let out seams as far as they'd allow, and then lost ten pounds on top of that. They fit now. So, I don't trust any size on a pattern anymore. As said.......buy some patterns in the mult-size range and even if you have to cut out one in muslin or newspaper and baste it by machine first.........it'll give you an idea before you cut into good, expensive fabric....See MoreSizing of toddler patterns - esp. Comments (3)Definitely don't go by the size number - use body measurements for accurate fit.Pattern catalogs should show how & where to measure for each size range (i.e. Infants, Toddlers, Misses, Juniors, etc.) - pages are usually in the back of the catalog. Manufacturers can pretty much choose any size number they wish for their clothing.I used to work for a local manufacturer & our size Small was a 36 bust. You said you measured & checked the pattern sizes - perhaps you needed to measure the pattern as well?I guess it's the same as carpentry - measure twice, cut once....? (& don't forget ease - IOW, a top for a 21 inch chest would not measure 21 inches - unless it's in skin-tight spandex.) Hmm - that makes me wonder - was the pattern for stretch fabric, maybe?...See MoreInduction Cooktops - Burner Size vs Pan Size
Comments (25)With conventional flat circular coil hobs, the heated zone is over the coil windings, and should be symmetrical about the coil center (it more or less has to be). The coil center should be aligned with the surface markings, but might not be and this can be checked by watching boiling water patterns. Correction requires cooktop disassembly and coil adjustment. Heating will be indirect above the very center of the coil due to fewer field lines there. The toroidal field above the coil will cause a ring shaped heating of the pan base extending from a bit away from the center to the edge of the coil, which may extend to the pan base edge, but might be smaller than the pan. If larger, then edge heating might reveal some added heating there as the farther radial field lines have to intersect the inductive material at the edge of the pan. Detection of the heating pattern somewhat depends on the pan base construction. Thin 400 series stainless steel without copper or aluminum layers will most easily reveal the field pattern; heavy layers will spread the heat and make the field structure difficult to deduce....See Morelinnea56 (zone 5b Chicago)
