Decorating colors go in and out of vogue, and purple is not currently in. Of course there are still people decorating with purple; they're just having a harder time of it right now.

I searched Overstock for purple throw pillows (you can filter by color) and turned up some nice options. A small number compared to, say, blue, but some selection. Same with rugs.

I'm working on my dining room now, in the same color palette. The rug is Safavieh. I haven't had a problem finding accessories. I love the internet!

Purple is not my fave color but I can't think of a color that is more popular across various groups. I truly don't think a color per se goes out of style but a TONE or SHADE might. Consider Pepto Bismol pink vs blush. Or Kelly green vs chartreuse green.

OP, decorate away with your fave color scheme, being mindful of tones, Which you can easily update using pillows, rugs, accessories.

I think purple is actually becoming trendy (not in a bad way.) Roarah's entry hall is one of my absolute favorite rooms here on GW.

The best inspiration for decorating with purple comes from UK designer Nicky Haslam, He uses a more lilac color, but the color schemes translate easily by toning shades down in accordance to how deep a color your main focus is.

I am working on a new house and purple is definitely in taking a prominent place in the color scheme (so far, nothing set in stone yet.)

It can be very difficult to find certain shades of certain colors in something that's accessible and relatively inexpensive unless the shade is trending somehow.

In 2011 I wanted a pillow roughly the color of the Houzz submit button because I was selling my house and the largest bedroom was completely unrenovated and was just cleaned up and painted and had a mixed bag of furniture and non functional bedside lamps. I put up a lot of art and wanted some spots of coordinating colors to make up for its shortcomings. But do you think I could find anything not expensive or custom? Nope.

I think purples are trending because they are showing up in new fabric collections. But it may not be all that common in ready made. Check out Z Gallerie, they seemed to have some purple and silvery tones last time I looked.

Just checked again in Z Gallerie pillows: lotsa purple, cream and grey. They tend toward the flashy sometimes but i think you can push the boundaries a bit with accessories.

I love purple, and don't follow trends really. I decorate to please myself.

I will eventually be painting my office a rich royal purple!

why, i love purple, and use a lot of it. different shades too

i do prefer muted, grayed versions. i have aubergine, lilac, mauve..some walls are some shade of puple, i have an aubergine sofa, a woven ottoman with pattern containing lilac, chairs upholstered in pattens containing purple, custom shelves that are teak plus cream plus darker purple..purples as accent in lights, throw pillows, throws, ceramics..it's dispersed through the house so it's balanced with many other colors(I love a lot of colors. neutrals, not neutrals-I don't care, I love them all). but it's there.

my affair with purple started when I was 15 or so. it was a color of twilight and mystery..color of an unknown

took me another thirty years to start to decorate with it. I don't think I will ever stop

i can't say the accents i buy are cheap. i generally spend more on the accents. i save on craigslisting etc lots of other stuff

(purple plus grey plus cream is crazily elegant..or has a potentiall to be such)

You might check etsy for pillows. I can usually find just about any color combination there.

I became interested in what can be found too, pretty much right away..

there's many more, but I don't know your style..so I just put together something..a bit less bohemian that I am usually easily enamored with, but judge for yourself, maybe something will speak to you? they're all from one site only-I gave myself restrictions like that, or I'd never be done:) these are Anthropologie..and I usually go and check out many sites, from eBay and Etsy and Chairish, to OneKingsLane, Gilt, Amara, Leif etc. These are huge..takes some patience and time of course. Nevertheless I still find them less overwhelming that Wayfair or Overstock (where good things can be found too)

not all of these are purple; but they all can be used as "purple plus cream plus gray" inspiration

(I usually don't suggest prints distributed by stores..but there's something about her I couldn't resist..))
