Here's what I copied from these boards a year or so ago: Taupe Loves - Pure white paint - Dark stained wood - Purple undertoned natural linens - Stones that contain grey or blue - Metals such as silver, chrome and stainless steel - The companionship of grey or brown - Dramatic accents of green, purple or red - Clear glass Taupe Hates - Anything that contains yellow, such as buttery paint - Golden woods, such as oak - Yellow-hued linens - Tan leathers - Stones that contain beige - Accessories that hint at yellow, such as dark cream porcelain. I used Sail Cloth in my living room and kitchen, but White Sand was a runner up. I also liked Monroe Bisque and Manchester Tan, though they didn't work with my carpet. Other popular neutrals are Edgecomb Gray, Revere Pewter, Shaker Beige, Muslin and Smokey Taupe. No guarantees, but I'd think surely one of those should work with your stone. I love the Beige section of the Favorite Paint Colors blog for helping to narrow things down. It's still no substitute for paint samples in your own space, though. Thank you, I'll definitely check Grant Beige. tibbrix, thanks so much for mocking up that color! It does look good with the floor and the couch. I'll check Fallen Leaves too but it might be a bit too brown. I think I was hoping to either go lighter and brighter or the other direction and tone it down with a mid-tone gray or greige that would work with the antique white trim and also the Believable Buff in the hallway. I am open to repainting the hallway though. I also have SW Camelback in the adjoining dining room. Kitchen cabinets in the same room are honey oak for now but I'm probably going to darken them a with gel stain. They don't really work with the granite, which is a greige color with a bit of a taupe undertone - didn't realize that when I decided to go with yellow based paint colors throughout the whole house!

I have a custom-modified version of Sherwin-Williams's oyster bar throughout my house. The "custom" part is that I asked the paint specialist to "double it", so it's slightly darker and more saturated than the original SW oyster bar color. A color consultant advised me on the color, which I originally thought was a boring beige, but in hindsight was a great choice because it's very neutral. It has slight undertones of gray/green, depending on the light. It looks great with just about any other color accessories, including Persian-type rugs with reddish, blue, and green hues.
