Anyone growing 'May' and/or 'Fog Light'
Comments (8)I grow May in deep shade. No one seeing it - me included - thinks "Oh - that's one of the Halcyon family" It is pretty non-descript. It does illustrate one of the oddities... the way yellow hostas have a bluish character... and vice versa. Mine is near Blue Canoe which is even more dramatic. Though blue in the spring, for me Blue Canoe is more yellow than blue through most of the season. I can't remember the explanation... I know it has to do with chlorophyll and the other colored aspects of leaves that combine to give us the range of colors in hostas. So a lot of "yellow" hostas actually have that kind of bluish bloom, at least for part of the season... May itself has been a slow grower... not difficult, but slow. I only grow it because it is part of my favorite family... otherwise I'd give its space to something more interesting....See MoreDriving in fog

Comments (5)wow ... im wondering whats the source of the myhosta info is ... because it was a hit at the 1999 convention in my backyard ... i had purchased the plant from englearth nursery just south of grand rapids MI ... a few years early .. and it grew like the undulata weed i thought it was .. lol .. after the convention i gave away many.. many divisions ... mr englerth was a good friend of herb benedict and mr walters... dating back into the 40s and 50s.. when they were all insane about primrose ... pretty sure i still have my OS stock ... or im wrong.. who knows ... i dont recall everything from the mid 1990s ... ken...See MoreOrchid friends, please look. Comments (12)Paul, that is so true. I am glad my windows are not obstructed up here that is for sure. Very hot in those windows if I don't use a sheer or what I described above at this time of the year, way up here in New England to boot. Arthur, it's funny you should say your hot windows face north. I forgot you are from the opposite side of the world. Good points and thank you. Suza, what beautiful set up you have there. I love it. I have always wanted one like that and hope to build one some day. Great positioning ideas. All your plants always look so nice))...See Morepopmama (Colorado, USDA z5)
