Dish cloth or sponge? And where do you store it between uses?
Comments (17)Sponges are horribly filthy- they hold bacteria even if you put them in the micro/dishwasher. I thought so too! But then I read a USDA report on putting sponges in the dishwasher with a hot dry cycle, and it said that it sterilized the sponge. I didn't believe it. So I let a sponge get stinky, brought home agar plates and sterile swabs from work (I teach physics and my lab is right next to the bio lab) and I streaked a plate. I put the sponge in the dishwasher with the heated drying cycle, and then streaked another plate. The first one was covered with colonies as you'd expect; the second was clean. Nothing was growing. It looked untouched. I had to change my tune. The dishwasher does a good job when you use the heated drying cycle. In fact, here's the USDA paper's conclusion: "Thus microwave heating and dishwashing with a drying cycle proved to be the most effective methods for inactivating bacteria, yeasts and molds on sponges. These simple and convenient treatments can help ensure that contaminated sponges don't spread foodborne pathogens around household kitchens of today's busy families." Comments (17)Knew you folks would give me great advice. Just got in from shopping . Lots of trying on comfortable pants. Learned you really have to try on to check for fit. Went to several stores and about 20 pairs later, I have one pair so far. Danskin from walmart seemed to fit the best. I weigh about hundred pounds with a brick in my pocket, and 5 feet tall. It can be a challenge when you add in the fact that I am 75 years old. Got my interest with the cuddl duds. Already checking into those. I thank each of you for your advice and will continue shopping at more stores looking for more. Bought two down jackets yesterday, one with sleeves and one without. The yoga pants I purchased are not tight, so think I can wear them other than exercise. Thank you again for all your help. You folks are the best....See MoreDoes your kitchen preference match your clothes?
Comments (10)I’ve realized that the kitchen I’m designing for our new house is very much a reflection of the colors I wish I could wear. I love layered, textured neutrals with cream, black, and all tones of brown. I still remember a cream cashmere coat one of the female characters on ER wore - I longed for that coat. Oh, and Rene Russo’s wardrobe from the Thomas Crown Affair. It seemed so unfair, as both women were redhead like me, but black and cream both make we look washed out and, quite frankly, ill. Sigh. Our kitchen design is for black leathered countertops, cream and natural white oak cabinets, and mid-brown hardwood floors. Basically, the clothes I wish I could wear in decor. And I tend to like clothes that are *almost* boring basics, but with little embellishments. A subtle ruffle here, a colored lining there, a touch of lace at the hem, etc., and I think that’s very much reflected in the styles we’re choosing, too. Much of the rest of the house is done in teals, blues, and greens, which are what I wear and love....See MoreWhich do you prefer?POLLS closed, thank you! : )
