Mine are off center. I didn't realize it until the build was almost complete. It doesn't both me because I very rarely stand back and look straight at the center of the room. This is the only pic I have straight on from during construction.

This is finished the the pic is taken from an angle.

Yes, it does bother me a little that mine are not. My kd assures me not to be concerned. So, This one I have let go.

I never even thought about that. I just looked at my plan and the lights are centered on the range. I don't think it would have bothered me if they weren't. When I think back to my old house that I lived in for 14 years I couldn't tell you whether the lights were centered on the range or not.

I think sometimes it matters and sometimes it doesn't. For some reason I thought it was noticeable in that person's case, so I offered an alternative.

I don't think I've ever done a kitchen where I was able to center anything on anything, so I almost always hide or do subdued range hoods. because in general I appreciate balance or near symmetry. This is why I found jannicone's kitchen so interesting, the complete and total symmetry of the main masses.

But I also would have probably tortured this to death until it looked like something graphically, and it doesn't improve the floor plan particularly. And it still doesn't completely satisfy because now what is beyond the island does not like up with that doorway anyway.

Cheri, too bad about not being able to use them in your house but I bet your house looks great.

Pal, thanks for the explanation. I'm thinking with every single element off center from every other element in my kitchen, I'll be fine. (sigh, at least I hope so.)

And then there wouldn't have been enough room for my dining room table anyway. Or there'd be room but no room to walk around it. 21" walking space on either side of the table in your last version just doesn't do it.

And anyway, then the bookcases are off center in the living room. ;)

I am a very "It has to be centered!" Person. We moved into our new build 2 years ago. The 2 pendants over the island and the hanging light over the dining area table were perfectly centered ( for awhile ). My island is movable as is my dining table. I have moved each of them a few inches because I wanted less space between the island and stove and more space between the dining table and the sliding doors to my screened porch. Now they are slightly off center and it really doesn't bother me. I don't notice it because I see each area as a whole, not furniture and lights Separately. It may bother you for awhile, but then forget about it and at that point you won't even notice.
