Closet with dark wood cabinets needs color - please share your pics

My closet has those California Closet type built ins in a dark color. The walls are white and it needs spiffing up. Has anyone created a lively closet with happy colors? Please share your photos.

Have these mid range orange-y build ins(whatever was on Craigslist lol)

(in fact the only common between that digital image and how the walls look like is that both of them could be, in a very broad way, called "some sort of a purple". IRL it's darker, deeper, more red-based.)

I got a lot of pleasure of putting some colorful boxes (found in TJ Maxx, left from gift, etc) where I keep lots of stuff(mementos, letters, postcards-I never throw these away, etc) on some of the shelves.

favorite scarves, bags-i arranged them in a way I can see them

I love colors and patterns(I love black and white and greige and taupe and cream too..one doesn't negate the other) so that obviously creates more liveliness.

Bought a funny vintage hat with a rose on some estate sale and put it on the top shelf.

I keep some art there too but it's not really displayed yet, it's stored, waiting for its moment..one can see a bit of it though.

I don't have a picture(I never thought my closet is worthy enough) and can't take one since we're that strange family with a broken camera and no i phones lol..need to buy a camera

the idea is basically the same-take a color you love that will work with your bedroom(or wherever your closet is) and have fun arranging it with your stuff.

Some boxes I have there are bright blue and bright pink with golden polka dots lol.

one box has a ribbon and embroidery. another pictures a happy frog.

I like being silly somewhere (often on a street lol)..closet is a nice place to do whatever makes you happy

In the previous home I had my most favorite top turned in a way I could see it all the time.

I also arranged some very bold necklace in the same way

April, your closet sounds lovely! I hope you invite a friend over to take a pic and post it :-). I also like those colors on the Dunn Edwards page - I had never heard of that paint until just yesterday when I saw their store.

suzatwork: i have to say your floors have very much the same grain and variation in tone as my highly-coveted black walnut. they're stunning! i'm wondering how they take stain, since i'd like darker floors? my plan is to go with the walnut but i'll have to get some samples and check the amendoim out. i'll have to look it up, but also assuming this species would be harder than walnut... hmmm... GREAT! more for me to think about! thanks for posting your gorgeous floors.

Our kitchen redo is a work in progress and definitely a modest, budget kitchen. We have Schrock white maple cabinets and we went with Wilsonart HD slate. What I like about the pattern we chose is it does not really look like it is trying to be something other than laminate (despite its name- slate)...yet still is pretty and interesting. The old laminate that was in here that looked like fake wood---actually had no damage and we have been here 27 years, so I was not afraid of laminate being damaged very easily. Also a stainless steel backsplash---my "dream " kitchen would have marble! Next we have to do the floor and put in the white plantation shutters,,, Anyway...white and black...

original maple floor (1912). Straycat, I use photobucket and there is an "HTML Code" I copy and paste (it's in a box titled Image Link Code.) You'll see the actual code when you paste but then you can see the actual picture when you "Preview Message." My pictures always end up really big so I change the size by inserting a new height and width into the code (in this case I added height="400" width="299.5" just after the part of the code border="0" in the code ) First try finding the HTML Code and click on it (it should copy automatically) and try putting it in your message--you can see if it worked by previewing your message. Then you can try playing around with size. I hope this helps---I don't know much about this, only what I've learned from other patient posters on the site. You can try it without actually posting, you can keep checking to see if you got it right with "Preview Message" without ever needing to "Submit Message." I hope this helps :)

Our kitchen is not finished as we don't have our backsplash in yet and we haven't stained our quarter round yet. The cabinets are Fairlawn by UltraCraft in their Destiny line but with solid wood drawer fronts instead of the 5-piece. They are cherry stained Chestnut. Granite is Black Pearl. The floor is a Brazilian hardwood called Timborana. The paint is Newport Tint by Porter Paint that we had mixed at Lowes because there was no nearby Porter Paint store. We used the same color in our primary residence and love it !! It goes good with pretty much any color we put with it. The backsplash will be Jeffrey Court Fire & Ice (coming this winter to a kitchen near you!! : ) Cabinet front picture is from cabinet company and lighter than real life. Also, the stain in real life is more consistent, not as much variation in stain color as their pic shows. Picture with ovens shows true cabinet color the closest. Backsplash picture above belongs to Jodi_in_so_calif.

You know I do have a friend visiting..:) maybe I'll ask her later. not going to be anything spectacular

I also never heard of Dunn Edwards until we moved to the West Coast
