The popularity of this type chandelier waxes and wanes as people's tastes change. A variation of this chandelier was a common item in many houses back East. I can't say what it might be worth to you or someone else, or what the wisdom might be to shipping. Look up Colonial Chandeliers on the internet for anything similar; do a bit of research. Never really considered fixed lighting as an asset unless of heirloom quality - more generally as something that conveys in the sale of a house. But, the value of something is what someone is willing to pay for it.

I live in the SE, and have been to all the places you listed! The Two Meeting Street Inn is my favorite place to stay in Charleston, as it is right on the Battery there in the residential district. I am a runner, so those early morning jogs down those exquisite residential streets were heavenly to me.There are too many amazing restaurants to list...see if your concierge is a true local and find out where THEY eat! :) If you don't mind a little drive, it is easy to get from NOLA to Natchez...and there is a scenic Hwy. I LOVE Natchez...we stayed in this amazing place called Monmouth Plantation...oh, it was lovely and such a complete Southern experience. We stayed at the Windsor Court hotel in NOLA, which is in the Buiness District, but just a short walk to the French Quarter. It was the best of both worlds to me, you could enjoy the craziness of Bourbon St, but then walk back to a wonderful, quiet hotel! And so close to the Cafe du Monde for your breakfast beignets! I am jealous of your trip! You will have an amazing time in these places! Oh, and the Biltmore Inn makes you feel like you are truly a guest of the Vanderbilts...Inn guests get lots of special perks while on the property. We just went in June for our anniversary. :)

No offense taken at all, ladies, I truly value your opinions. Leahcate, these are not fresh flowers from my garden (if only!). At one time I completely sneered at fake flowers and spent inordinate amounts of time with fresh flowers, which had to be changed every few days, and about 50 houseplants (when I had a really large house in the past). I'm afraid exhaustion and not so good health have set in but I enjoy the subtle colors and textures even of the fake ones. I know how you feel since I've cringed at some of the decorations in rooms that people have posted, but dare one say anything unless specifically asked? In this case I did ask so of course my feelings are not hurt in the least. In the TV room which is where we spend quite a bit of time (we also have two laptops there) I almost always have a vase of fresh roses from the garden. (Also many of my husband's paintings and drawings and a Yorkie and a Maine Coon cat, so I consider it a well-furnished room.) My thoughts: - I don't think the light fixture is the problem in this room --I wouldn't bother to change it. - I think the problem is that you have a bunch of neutrals, and they're fighting with one another. The staircase is lovely, and the brick wall is lovely. The floor is ... eh. But the big issue is that these three items don't match one another. - Of the above mentioned items, I'd most like to change the floor -- but I realize that this is expensive and may not fall under the venue of "facelift". As such, I suggest a rug. I personally would go with a red rug, but your taste in color may differ -- it just needs not to be a neutral. It'd hide the floor and bring in a much-needed pop of color. - The table seems to be too large for its location. I'd look for a smaller table -- or simply a built-in shelf in that spot. The trunk seems to be too large to fit under the table. - I like the pot belly stove -- it's unexpected and interesting. - I don't particularly like the cabinet -- though I would like it in a different location -- it's somewhat underwhelming as a focal point dead-ahead of the door. Any chance the table (which I like -- I just don't think it fits in that spot) could go in its place?
