A gal in our sewing group showed us this pen. She uses it for quilting, It disappears when using an iron on it. Perfect.

nicole, I tried those erasable pens early on, but they left a lot to be desired -- they weren't that erasable and the ink didn't flow nicely. This one is a big improvement.

I bought some recently in Japan, better than their predecessors.

Foggy, the online quilting groups I am in have given negative reviews for these pens being used on fabric. Apparently the markings come back! The manufacturer advises against using them on fabric. I sure hope your friend hasn't had any problems with them. I would just be sick if the lines reappeared on my quilts!

It's not really erasable because it is merely hidden with increased temperature and will reappear when cooled, though, an interesting effect.

I'm trying to understand the benefits. Annie, using it for crosswords, if you make a mistake, heat the end and write over it, your mistake disappears. So you put in the right word, and the right word shows up instead of the old one? I would think that one word would be over top of the old, so it's a jumble.

No jasdip, it erases the ink -- it disappears -- exactly like using an eraser on a pencil. You don't heat it. Just rubbing the end of the pen over the ink creates friction which is enough heat to make the ink disappear. Once erased it stays that way.

It behaves just like a pencil and eraser. But the technology is different. Unlike a pencil eraser which rubs off the lead, the ink is still there, but invisible. Cooling the ink will make it come back -- but why would I put the puzzle in the freezer?

The benefit for crosswords is that the ink is much darker and easier to see. I always used special soft leaded pencils to do puzzles, but they were still not very dark. If too dark, they became hard to erase. This pen provides the benefit of both dark clarity and erasability.
