Comments (14)No grandeur here. Todays issue of my growing up years hometown newspaper has this picture and article on the front page. Country churches were established to provide a place for worship in close proximity to the residents scattered around a certain area. For instance, the Oak Ridge Union Church has served families in the Erhard, McCartney and Oak Ridge areas since 1906 when some men of different denominations determined the need for a central place of worship for everyone; a place where those from various religious persuasions would feel comfortable. As people have moved from the country to towns and cities, and travel is more efficient than the days of horse and buggy, country churches would seem unnecessary. 9 years agoThis rose bush was nearly dead when we bought the house. The previous owner kept cutting it to the ground and another shrub of some sort was crowding it out as well. I removed the other plant, babied the rosebush, didn't prune it for a couple of years and it made an amazing comeback. I look forward to these red roses every summer.

9 years agoToday is an absolutely gorgeous day for a drive so we did. We packed a lunch and headed to beach country. Not to sit on the beach, but wander the town. We did drive along the beach and there wasn't a soul in the water, I guess it's too cold.
We did fill up on gas, too. It was 15c/litre cheaper than at home when we left. It was 1.13/litre at home and 97.8c/litre in Goderich.
Here's hubby in the park in front of the courthouse. The shops are in a circle around the courthouse.
And the water was sparkling blue, with no one in it.
