rug runners for carpetted stairs.

Hi

I am looking for rug runners for my carpetted stairs just to save from spills and wear and tear from my super active toddler. I look online and i see most are with non-slippery padding which will not work in my case. I am thinking runner rugs just like regular rugs ( heavy ) might work and not slip down.

I do not have much idea on what kind of weave or type or fiber will work better.

Any suggestions? what kind of rugs should be used there?

As since stairs open in the hall way connecting to living room ,foyer , I would need to coordinate and plan to buy all together. And I like subtle/beige tones and less inclined to contemporary designs with geometrical patterns.

Just to be sure of what you want - Your stairs are carpeted now, and you want more carpet to put over them? That could be a hazard for someone not used to walking on them, with the increased thickness.They would have to be attached with carpet tacks just like the ones you have now.

You can rent a rug cleaner or have someone come to your house to clean rugs, which may be less expensive and will be safer than a heavy runner on top of existing carpet on stairs.

my3dogs, when we bought the home, they had stair runners over carpetted stairs and stapled. We removed them before we moved in because they were dirty. They were adding thickness but we never walked on it so we do not know how much hazard they were. You might be right. May be just vinyl to protect the rug. My kid is super active and she spills all over and won't stop.

I'll suggest a tone on tone carpet. brb I think something like this that is textural but doesn't show vacuum streaks. Plus, the texture would be great for the stairs for traction.

Hey Happy New Year! You could do a overlapp of the carpet runner on the luxary vinyl plank, because before they install the carpet it would have wood edges for the carpet nailed to be put in, thus overlapping would be a problem, and it would best to leave the LVT as is because you are technically creating a second sub-floor on top of the exisitng staircase wood. thanks Purewal Contractors Inc

My kid is super active and she spills all over and won't stop.

Can you limit where she goes with drinks and/or food? To me that seems like the logical solution. Any kind of runner on top of carpeted stairs presents a safety hazard.

It is actually my H's choice and he is hell bent on putting rugs on stairs. He does not like vinyl rugs. So in that case, what kind of rugs should go?

I doubt any carpet and rug installer will agree to install a rug runner over the existing carpet. The liability when someone falls down is too great. The cost of installing rug over carpet would be as high or almost as high as replacing the carpet in a few years.

Why don't you just recarpet the stairs in a durable tweed that doesn't show spills.
