Help? I need a small undermount sink
Comments (8)We ended up getting a sink from a place called Gemini Sinks (http://www.geminisink.com) We got the exact same size sink we currently have (13 3/4" x 16" x 8" bowls) for $349 including the drains. Thanks so much for all your suggestions. I feel better I have one in hand as our templating is scheduled for two weeks from now and I was going to worry the whole time about shipping if I had to order online. I haven't had any trouble with this size in the past (actually I never noticed they were smaller than anyone else's sinks). http://www.geminisink.com/ProductDetails.php?sink_id=115...See MoreRecommendations for a LARGE double-bowl ss sink?
Comments (10)Whether the depth will be an issue for you depends on height, arm length, how far back the sink is mounted from the edge of the counter, and type of installation (under or over mount). You cannot do much about the first two, so try one or more of the following: Mount the sink as close to the counter edge as possible...definitely no more than 3" if at all possible Get a sink grid...it lifts the bottom of the sink approx 1" (b/c the grid is approx 1" tall). If you need the extra inch, you can remove the grid...but at 10" deep, I doubt you'll need to. Get an over mount/drop-in sink. The true depth of an under mount sink is the sink's depth + the thickness of your countertop material. So, if you overmount/drop it in, you don't have that extra depth. However, an overmount/drop-in sink is not generally aesthetically pleasing! An overmount/drop-in can also be more difficult to keep clean b/c of the grunge that collects along the rim. Another option is a flush-mount where the sink is mounted flush with the surface of the counter...but I don't know much about it. Of the above, I recommend the first two and not the third. But, that's my personal preference. ++++++++++++++ Now, here's my sink, a 16-gauge Ticor sink, S405D. It's in a 36" sink base. It comes with both sink grids plus you can now get a cutting board to fit over the large bowl (they didn't have the cutting board when I ordered mine, it's fairly new.) Overview: Measurements: Small bowl big enough to fit 8qt Stockpot: Large bowl big enough to hold several bowls & misc other items: As well as my longest cookie sheet: Additional Details: Brand: Ticor Model: S405D Installation Type: Undermount Exterior Dimensions: 35-1/8" x 20-7/8" x 9" Interior Dimensions: 21-3/8" x 18-3/4" x 9" (L), 10-1/2" x 15-7/8" x 7" (R) Bowl Ratio: 70/30 Drain Opening: 3-1/2" Standard Material: High Quality 18/10 Chromium/Nickel Stainless Steel Sink Gauge: 16-gauge Finish: Brushed Bowl/Polished Rim (Brushed Rim now available by request) Minimum Sink Base Cabinet Required: 36" Feature: Heavy Duty Sound Guard Coating and Padding Included With Sink As Free Items: Template for Sink Cutout Mounting and Installation Brackets 2 Rinse Sink Grids (Polished 18/10 Stainless Steel Wire Bottom Grid with Opening for Sink Strainer) 1 Pullout Stainless Steel Basket Strainer Regular Strainer Its current price on Galaxy Tool Supply (GTS) (where I got mine) is: $249.99 and Free Shipping. You can sometimes get Ticor sinks for even less if you bid on one on eBay at GTS' eBay store, but check to be sure your final cost includes shipping (if it's not free on eBay). I will say, though, that I replaced the strainer in the small bowl with a Kohler DuoStrainer and the one in the large bowl w/a garbage disposal (InSinkErator Evolution Septic Assist) and the Kohler Disposal Flange. Others have used the included strainers and are satisfied, but I had used "standard" strainers all my life and didn't like the fact that they usually didn't seal and wouldn't stay open or closed. So, I spent extra $$ and got the DuoStrainer...it was highly recommended here at the time. I was not disappointed...the DuoStrainer is the best strainer I've ever had...solid & very functional. (I also purchased a DuoStrainer for my Kohler prep sink.) Comments (20)Steve, I'm in the UK so am unfamiliar with Home Depot items. However, sinks in that price range over here I'd imagine would be similar, same gauge of s/steel etc and friends who have them hate stainless. Our sink in our old kitchen when we bought this house was a DIY store special I think ( everything the owners did was cheap and to enable a sale). It was the bane of my life. Hated it with a passion and vowed never to have stainless. Well, then I found this forum! I now have a kohler stages 45 sink and its 16g and obviously was £££ but I love it. Cleans up a dream and is very quiet too. It is a massive part of our kitchen functionality. So that was the only reason I said to get the best sink you can afford nothing specific about that sink ( though H.D do it in 16g and it is over $300 the one you linked is 18g which is still good but not the top) you are right that it is possible to remove a sink that is under-mounted and replace it especially if it has been installed with a cradle system like HUSH, undo the cradle, loosen the silicon round the sink and it will come free. however, if the sink is as big as the cabinet or almost and the cabinets have been messed with to enable it to fit it will not be possible to get that sink out of there without breaking into that cabinet that's really why I said originally, try and go for the best sink now rather than come unstuck....See MoreKitchen Sink SS - undermount/reveal/flush?
Comments (8)We havent decided between Granite or Taj Mahal Quartzite yet. Our cabinet size is 31 1/2 inch and new cabinet will have 3/4 ply so opening will only be 30". We have been advised to get a 29" sink or smaller. We are hoping to not have to do a sink top dish rack, rather something inside the sink. This is why we were looking at a divided sink. Our existing sink is a 14" bowl on one side and 12" bowl on other side and is top mount. Our Uncle had told us that the low divide is advantageous so the pot handles can be washed in that area without hitting sink sides. We have a single sink at our cottage and have to only fill part way to wash the dishes, as the sink fills up more when you rinse the dishes. We also have to have a countertop dish rack/tray to put the dishes in to dry. For our new kitchen at home we are trying to not have a dish rack on the counter....See Moresheloveslayouts
