Bird Identification

Recently a bird has been flying around my neighborhood at night, not really a pest since it usually quiets down after awhile. BUT I am curious to know what kind of bird this is. Could anyone help me out? There's no picture since the bird only comes at night but I did record the call it makes.

Where are you located? Can you describe the sound it makes? When you say "night"......is it completely dark out? What time of night? To start with, check out the sounds that a mockingbird makes. sometimes they sing at night.

It makes a loud repetitive chirping/pecking sound while it's flying around. It looks like it's a light color. I'm located in Southern California near Pasadena

I don't live in cardinal country, but it appears to be a juvenile bird that has a fairly dark bill while transitioning plumage. I think this is common, especially during the earlier period of the transition.

The second photo I saw of this bird looked really familiar. I think it is a cardinal bird. Some times I saw this bird, my friends told me it was a cardinal. This picture looks pretty good. Where did you take it? Local or a place of interest? By the way, if I want a bird like this, can you show me how to get it?

I'm not familiar with all the birds in your area, but if it's at night, and it's not something like a mockingbird, I would google a couple of the herons.......like the black-crowned night heron, and some of the other herons.
