Emrit, I stole a slate tile fireplace for your room. Actually, the original photo was a bit too gray, so I warmed it up a bit. You'll have to get tile samples and bring them into your room to see how they look in your light.

I really like the change up to a light gray. It's much fresher than the existing colour and I would have also gone with either an ebony or opposite with a very light flooring. Its not boring and I love that you went for it

As long as it is heat resistant/high heat mortar and grout, you should be fine.

I'd paint your brick black, remove the frame around it, and bring in an oak mantle w/a better piece of art above it. plants, tall plants, bring some vertical interest to the room. put it in the corner by the window, or where I have it see this black brick? loos great w/the oak flooring. very similar wood trim like your place. notice the all of the plants too. I like this idea too. instead of the walnut, you could use a black shiplap material. notice the shelving off to the side. I think it's perfect there doing the wood would bascially look like this ( or the black shiplap) you fir it out, face it w/cement board (or something fire rated) and then attach the wood planks. you could use wood flooring planks, or cut your own wood pieces, prime and paint them black (or white) and you're done! you could fir out the brick and attach the wood planks easily. Repaint your walls a brighter white. other options: I'd consider doing a black wall. look at the other elements that go w/it. camel leather, all of the pillows, the neutral artwork, the black sisal rug. This cabinet does not go. if you must keep it, paint it and put on more modern knobs. see? something like this: or, something like this in that corner. hang a cool piece of art or a gallery of black/white phtoos another idea: fir out the brick, put up some cement board and pick a cool tile if you build it out, you'll have inset space for the sides. do some shelving or book cases. the leather pour, the pillows, baskets, wood shelf and mantle, all look great w/your room decor another option, you could do a cement overlay, roman clay, or a smooth stucco over the brick.
