Why don't people make shower doors out of acrylic?
Comments (48)"they are not huge nor are they that heavy" The glass is custom 1/2" thick glass 5 1/2 ft tall sitting on top of a 2ft high tub wall. Each pane is well over 100lbs, there are 3 panes across (pic attached). If a single pane is on the floor and you've got 2 guys prepped to lift it, i guess it's not that heavy. If you're a kid taking a shower and a 100+ pound pane whose top height is 7 1/2 ft from the floor comes down on you, that's a different story. Edit: i wanna say it's actually closer to 200 lbs per pane because i have glass in my other shower too, and it is much lighter than the glass in this shower....See MoreWhy Don't You Use Your Dining Room?
Comments (41)We've been in this house for 26 years and the original kitchen was small and poorly designed with 6 - yep that's right 6 doors or hallway openings. When the 5 of us sat down for meals only the 2 on the end could get up. So we ate in the dining room most nights on a plywood table that DH made until we renovated. Both of us cook and we enjoy having guests so we put on a large addition and at 30 x 18 my kitchen is the largest room in the house and we love it. It mimics our formal dining room with dark cherry cabinets and Oriental rugs on the ceramic. We usually have all our meals there. We've made lighting the candles and saying grace (or a few woods to mark the day's events) a ritual. But there's still nothing like sitting down as a family for meals in the dining room which now has a real table and china cabinet and using the silver and china. There's a different feeling to using the dining room that makes it special. But when we designed our vacation/retirement home in the mts. we made a large great room so it's a combination living - dining- kitchen area....See MoreGetting paranoid:Why don't mag kitchens have interesting granite?
Comments (25)I love ALL of you! Thank you! Bostonpam describes it best - after looking at granites for a full year (yep, a long remodel!) I couldn't find anything I love, love, loved. The day I saw this I was gleeful - and my heart has been singing ever since and I can't WAIT to get it in my kitchen! I just was looking at those mags - and houzz, even - and so many are white, neutral, white that I started to freak out. I am struggling with lighting for over the island though - the island is small (51" wide with granite by 64" long) and perpendicular to the room (vs horizontal like most) so I was thinking round but can't decide between: (All of these sort of pick up the backsplash tile in some way... Sorry they don't link live, you'll have to copy and paste if interested. ) - Open weave metal (I get nervous that the granite is so busy but keep forgetting that the granite is flat - and I have cream cabinets) http://www.efirdsinteriors.com/search_individual_result.asp?current=358674&cart=Y - Shaded with some interest (not sure I can afford this - one large or two smaller pendants) http://www.circalighting.com/details.aspx?pid=3415 - Combo weave and shade (too matchy matchy though?) Pendants here - https://www.houzz.com/photos/ellen-grasso-inc-traditional-kitchen-dallas-phvw-vp~646722-Grasso-Inc-traditional-kitchen-dallas One large round here - http://www.horchow.com/product.jsp?itemId=cprod72450015&ecid=HCBHOZDSNone&csdartid=42118357_71729536_&cssiteid=1153842 Or industrial? I can't seem to get my heart into industrial... but a copper would look really nice with it? And I know everyone is way into that look? Any votes are welcome - and thank you again for your encouragement of my choice. It really means a lot. I'll post photos when it's all finished! Here is a link that might be useful: Open basket weave...See MoreWhy don't they make movies I want to see? What's your dream movie?
Comments (28)It seems to me that Hollywood only makes three movies these days: The movie about running real fast and engaging in physically impossible acrobatics while things blow up all around. The fart joke movie. The dysfunctional relationships movie, which has two variants: pseudo-inspirational and frankly depressing. Of course, these can be combined, as for instance, in the upcoming remake of Murder on the Orient Express which seems to combine Hercule Poirot, superhero, with the most dreary-looking trainload of miserable people you ever saw. So I just don't go. The suggestion to go to an art house is clearly made by people who live in very major metro areas. I live just north of a major metro area, but still about 90% of the movies I might possibly wish to see do not play within 150 miles of where I live. I see about one movie a year in the theater. Unfortunately, I do keep up with what's current when visiting my brother who has every known streaming service. I'm astounded at how fatiguing it is to try to be entertained....See Moreklem1
