We have a patio door w/cordless, cellular shades (Graber brand). The look is similar to a French door but the panel on the left side is stationary. Consequently, the door part (on the right) opens toward the stationary panel on the left. The problem w/the cordless cell shades is that they stuck out too far from the stationary panel and from the door. This meant they would hit each other whenever the door was opened too far (it couldn't open all the way due to the shades). This happened a lot, unfortunately, because it was the door to the backyard and we go outside frequently. We've had the shades about four years; in the last six months or so, one of the cords snapped on the shade on the door so the blind would no longer stay up. We opened and closed these shade a lot b/c I liked them open but DH wanted privacy. Another thing about these shades is that they clanked against the door whenever it was opened or closed. I found that very annoying. I'm looking to replace these shades with panels on flush mount rods. Incidentally, we have a window with a corded cellular shade purchased at the same time and it's working great.

Thank You. I stopped by at our local home-depot to checkout the depth of vertical shades and the rep there mentioned that sliding doors can only be used with outside-mount shades and inside-mount is not recommended. I am guessing he didn't understand my question !

I'm not installing them myself, as I did the online window blinds. I'm buying them from Home Depot, so the onus is on them if there's an issue. The contracted company that is doing the measurements is doing the installation. They will be inside mount and as far as the stacking, it will be a non-issue. It's a three panel slider but it was a custom installation...the panel on the right is fixed. The center and left panels slide left and are "hidden" behind the lanai wall. Thanks foe the feedback. I will consider the 3/4" cell for better proportion to the large opening. Oh, and no kids or pets in this home :) Tipsy

Thanks. not exactly blocking completely or I would have gone with black out. but don't want it look like dracula's castle:). I do love black outs for bedroom. but for LR/DR it is a bit trickier. funny, I did put both samples of the double cell and single cell side by side against my window and they did not appear that much different. more "gradient" if you will. but maybe this isn't a good way to test?
