Choosing cellular shades for sliding balcony door and window

Hi All,

I have a western facing apartment (lots of afternoon sun!)with a
balcony door and window to the left of it, different sizes, dining/living room are "open concept," if you will. I wanted to
do both windows w/ double cell cellular shades in a neutral color but
for the balcony door, a vertical shade is not available in double cell.
The vertical shade would work best for the balcony door which has a
sliding glass door. The window to the left of it I want to do in the duo
fold (up down from top/bottom) in the double cell which is available.
Both would be same color, material. Question is: would it be okay,
design wise to the vertical shade in the single cell and the window to
the left in a double cell? I do think having both in single cell would
make for more a sun room than dining/living area and am trying to find that "sweet spot" between function and design. Thoughts? Thanks!

I would think as long as they are both the exact same fabric and color, it shouldn't be a problem

Thanks! I guess the main concern is that because one is slightly more light filtering than the other, during the day, the colors may appear different. even though they would be technically the same color (beechwood) and style (honeycomb/cellular). probably not as nearly as much as say the difference between blackout and light filtering but somewhat.

What color is the actual window frame? If white, I would order white shades. Most brands have several shades of white or off white to choose from. I would be afraid to match the wall color because most of my shades have always outlasted the paint color in a room and white goes with everything.

I'm not installing them myself, as I did the online window blinds. I'm buying them from Home Depot, so the onus is on them if there's an issue. The contracted company that is doing the measurements is doing the installation. They will be inside mount and as far as the stacking, it will be a non-issue. It's a three panel slider but it was a custom installation...the panel on the right is fixed. The center and left panels slide left and are "hidden" behind the lanai wall. Thanks foe the feedback. I will consider the 3/4" cell for better proportion to the large opening. Oh, and no kids or pets in this home :) Tipsy

Hey There: My suggestion is a panel sliding window covering. It should cover the full door including the windows and open in the middle. This way getting in and out of the door is a breeze and you tight the door/window system together. I would do 6 panels in total and a staggering track - this way you can almost clear the complete window when you fully open the blinds - you can also do 8 panels. The panels are opening with a simple push and the staggered track does install as wall mount with about 2 inches protrusion. www.PleatedBlindsStore.com

I hadn’t thought to try to invoke a warranty but will look into it. I wonder whether any warranty even transfers to us, as we did not buy the shades. We could get away with having nothing there but you can really feel the cold come through in the winter when you open the shades so may as well have some insulation for overnight. I think I also prefer the coziness of closing in for the evening. That said, could that be the only curtain in the house or do I have to do a cellular shade for consistency with all of the windows? The curtain would be an easier fix but I’m very concerned about doing something that is considered ”wrong” for resale.

Yes, even though the color is the same, the translucence is going to appear markedly different. Given your exact goal of blocking afternoon sun is having a translucent shade of any sort a reasonable compromise in this room?

Thanks. not exactly blocking completely or I would have gone with black out. but don't want it look like dracula's castle:). I do love black outs for bedroom. but for LR/DR it is a bit trickier. funny, I did put both samples of the double cell and single cell side by side against my window and they did not appear that much different. more "gradient" if you will. but maybe this isn't a good way to test?

..I am wondering if it may make more sense to do both shades matching (one would be vertical for the balcony door): beechwood, 3/4 single cell, cellular. and if too much sun is coming for my liking add a drapery? again, any thoughts welcome for both ideas. And how others with open floor plans facing western sun have balanced function and design.
