Very surprising phone call from my brother tonight
Comments (19)I got more info today - both from my brother's significant other (SO) who sent me a long email and from him when he called me. He completed the intake evaluation today and he goes in Monday for detox and then into treatment for four weeks. He seems very committed to it and I do think he realizes he will die soon if he doesn't do this. Hopefully it's not too late as his SO indicated he is pretty sick - unable to eat, etc. I was encouraged to hear him rather enthusiastic about his four hour conversation with the intake counselor who is a nine year recovering alcoholic. I know it will be important for him to develop relationships with other recovering alcoholics, which in the past he despised - things like AA meetings which he has attended in the past - required I think as a result of DUI arrests. He's anxious to get in and get started though scared about the detox. He knows he will be given medication to help with this but I felt very bad for him as I don't think I've ever heard him express fear about anything. So things are progressing. It's so tragic how awful addiction can be....See More~What's the big deal about 'Big Brother'
Comments (4)LOL, yeah, they've all been pretty tacky :) I think you'd have to watch a whole season to understand the addiction . . . these people are in the house for 3 months - no contact whatsoever with anybody else, no TV, no newspapers, etc. After a short time, they completely forget there are cameras everywhere and it gets pretty ugly. You see them as their raw, unguarded selves. One of the first seasons showed a vengeful girl using another houseguest's toothbrush to scrub out a toilet . . . then putting it back into the toothbrush holder. There are no "normal" people here . . . they are all drama kings and queens who are completely narcissistic. It's just an opportunity to be a voyeur into the world of the 'I can't believe there are people who would do that stuff' kind of thing . . . hey, we have long, boring winters up here :) The 'strategy' revolves around keeping yourself aligned with a group so you have power in numbers when it comes to voting people out. This year they threw a monkeywrench into that area, because they are being voted out in teams of two - so whether or not one person in the team is liked or innocent (of whatever), they both go. The power in the house is constantly shifting; someone may be king of the world one week, and the bottom of the totem pole the next week. The first seasons didn't have people who knew each other . . . but in order to change/spice things up, the last few seasons started doing that. The BB motto is "expect the unexpected" so unlike Survivor, where things are always pretty much the same every year with different faces, BB shakes things up a lot. Also, by having it on 2 to 3 times a week, you REALLY get to know the houseguests . . . the good, the bad and the ugly :) They also have an uncensored version of the house on Showtime on late night. I can't stay up for much of it, but it's always stuff they could never show on primetime. This bunch has been wild as all getout at night . . . my 21 yr. old DD watches with me and I made her promise she'll NEVER EVER try out for this show . . . her poor old mother couldn't take watching her baby in a mess like that . . ....See MoreDid You Watch Big Brother Last Night?
Comments (8)I liked the first group better. Don't like several of the people in the second group. My initial impression of Zach is that he sounds like a real jerk. Marilyn, the biggest news from last night was more information about the HOH and the houseguests nominated. There's going to be 2 HOH, each who will nominate 2 for eviction - putting 4 in danger of going home. There will then be a Battle of the Block where the 2 compete against the other 2. I believe that the 2 who win means that the HOH who nominated them is then no longer an HOH which puts that person in jeopardy also, but I'm not clear if that's an automatic thing or if they can choose the other HOH to step down....See MoreAre You Watching Big Brother Tonight?
Comments (8)I admit, I love this show, coming from a people watcher, myself. It's my guilty pleasure. I hope it is an interesting season, since the past few have not been great. Will (Hantz) will be found out very soon (and some suspect) that he is a Russell's bro. He looks, sounds and they will soon find out he acts like Russell. With that, they all might just get him out of there before the the sh*t hits the fan. Though, he might make for a good season...like Russell did on Survivor (IMO). Maybe I'll eat those words, but, I'd like to see an outstanding season since the past few have been lacking in all areas. Not so sure I'm going to like this Mentoring twist though. Not a fan of Glass House either....See Moreravencajun Zone 8b TX
