Princess Charlene of Monaco - Super fragrant rosy surprise!
Comments (111)LL if you can grow then as climbers, or if you have a place for a tall rose, I would really recommend it. The height is perfect because it’s right there to enjoy the fragrance, which is fantastic. The only thing I should warn is that I notice mine need more water and more attention (feeding, etc) than others to be their best. I don’t feed my roses normally, but this princess gets fed....See MoreGuessing game: Can you spot Abraham Darby?
Comments (29)Lisa, fun post and gorgeous blooms! (in January!) (Congratulations to Nik and all players) Sheila, I was interested in the DA own-root RMV question, too. Last spring I called their Customer Service who said they’d research the source of own-root cuttings and got back shortly to say they’re all from back home in the UK. They believed the mother plants there were grafted, but that doesn’t sound like a problem, does it, since they apparently aren’t plagued with the virus there, fortunately. (Nice, husky own-roots from what I’ve seen.) Not too late to say “Happy New Year!” to all! Linda...See MoreBest Austins or English Looking Roses for Vase?
Comments (53)I’m glad to hear that you like ‘Sister Elizabeth’, Dan! I’ve always wanted to grow her, and my given name is actually Elizabeth. I hear she does remain small, and that’s important to me. Do you know if Sister Elizabeth makes a good cut flower? Do you think Sister Elizabeth and Young Lycidas would compliment each other, colorwise? I’m getting SO excited, now! Too bad it’s already after 5pm in Texas. I can’t call them until Monday morning. I sure hope it’s not too late, by then. I know they’re already shipping bareroots to my zone. I’m glad to hear that you call and change your order frequently, Dan. Now, I don’t feel so bad about doing it:) At least this gives me until Monday to find out what the largest Young Lycidas has ever grown to. That will likely be the size mine would get. I should have never looked at this thread! Thanks a LOT, Sultry and Helen!!!!!...:) Lisa...See MoreBest large-headed pastel roses for cutting - scent, vase life etc
Comments (45)I can’t speak for Francis Meilland in my hot and muggy Maryland climate but I did see a bed of them at the Santa Barbara rose garden this summer and it was blooming it’s head off despite the lack of care (I think COVID has reduced the number of volunteer gardeners). The smell is lovely but the bush shape is typical hybrid tea - tall and skinny. I’d suggest planting a group of 3 if you have the room. Super lovely in Zone 9, though. (Photos attached) I’ll also add that Princess Charlene de Monaco is gorgeous in neighboring yards but I don’t have her myself.. yet....See MoreLisa Adams
