Men created names for plumbing construction hardware, right?
Comments (28)This is a cute thread. I was a veterinary technician many years ago (in my 20's)and had to go to the place that sells welders, welders' masks and such to get some oxygen tanks filled to use with our anesthesia machine. As I was waiting, I walked around the show room and decided to see what it would be like to look through one of those big masks with the pull down shield. There was a naked lady in there...wearing only a Santa hat! I'm sure I turned beet red and the guys on the other side of the two way mirror were hooting....See MoreURGENT help w/ pool chemicals.. did we screw up our new pool?
Comments (18)Well you got the 1st lesson of pool ownership. 1) Becareful of the "pool store" and what they say. They don't always know what they are talking about. Buy a test kit, learn how your pool is suppose to work. Do your own testing. Post your pool chemical test results here and we can tell you what to buy. Also, if I were you, I would attack one problem at a time. One change can effect other factors without ever having to add the second chemical. And, don't worry, you have NOT ruined your pool. When you mix the chemicals together, it "can" basically make them "ineffective" at doing anything so when you end up adding what you have mixed up, the chemicals do nothing or less than what you bought them for in the first place if they react with themselves. So what you did was waste time and money and probably changed your pool chemistry less or not at all compared to if you had added them to the pool separately. The pool chemical company can sell you a bunch of chemicals to attack meaningless problems and many times they set themselves up for you creating additional problems so you can come back and buy more chemicals. You need to know whats going on and go to the store with one chemical and process in mind to buy and ignore the temptation to ask them anything. ;)...See MoreNew Construction Plumbing Question
Comments (13)Plumbing solder is tin and antimony or tin and silver and are non-toxic. Lead bearing solder (for plumbing) hasn't been used in at least 50 years. Flux is used to clean the tubing and fitting. The 'old' flux used zinc chloride - the flux looks like Vaseline, apply a very thin film to the tubing and fitting, cleans when the joint is heated. Now understand this kind of flux was used for probably 100 years to solder copper water pipe. Today, there are NSF approved fluxes that are zinc chloride free. No need to worry. Further, once you run some water through the pipe, the residual flux is washed away. I have always lived / worked where there is decent city water, no problems with copper. Could very well be that well water, improperly treated, would react with the copper pipes. Also consider, that if you have to use PEX, cause the water reacts with copper - maybe the water should be treated - because (untreated) it may be less than healthy for you!...See MoreNew build plumbing issue!
Comments (15)I see I see!! Thank you everyone for clarifying this! I was so confused because while we were watching them build the home, the plumbing and electrical were all there sticking up from the concrete (as shown in photo) so we assumed it was gonna stay that way, just inside the gap of the cabinet so that we can just demo through the cabinet and connect. Yes, it does seem the builders want me to go out of my way to get this done instead of going through them. My contractor is able to work around this, but they told me that it shouldn’t have poured cement over it so it made me concerned that the builders were covering up a mistake they did. There is already electrical ran through island as we do have pre-existing plugs on each side already built in. But yes at this point, the money we are spending to work around this plumbing problem is going to be what we would have spent if we had just upgraded the prep sink with the builder. Lesson learned. Thank you all for clarifying!!...See Morejust_janni
