4" backsplash behind vanity
Comments (31)Thank you, Linelle! If you click on the picture it should take you to more views. After living with a terribly old and ugly bathroom with water damaged walls for many years, it was really nice to finally finish this room (although we still need to trim around the window and door). Everyone on this board was really helpful when I was planning the remodel. The granite is white river, sinks are Kohler Archer, cabinet hardware and toilet roll holder are RH Chatham, hooks and train rack are RH Vintage, arched hand towel bars are Ginger, lights and mirrors are PB, floors are filled and polished travertine, and the glass/travertine detail tiles in the shower are from Home Depot. I think the sink and shower fixtures are Moen. One thing I really love is the hidden medicine cabinet that looks like a framed picture. This is what we started with, right before we gutted it down to the studs: This post was edited by juddgirl2 on Sun, Mar 9, 14 at 3:53...See MoreShould mirror touch back splash? Design help needed
Comments (24)>the mirror will need to not touch the ledge below it. over time, say 5 years or so, water and cleaning agents will seep up behind the mirror and create a black line at the bottom of the mirror. You need enough space to no allow water to wick up behind the mirror. Kind of puzzled by this. I can see that this would be a big issue for mirrors that come to the countertop, but I have 30 year old mirrors that are actually supported by the backsplash, and they're just now starting to go at the corners, which I don't think has much at all to do with that....See MoreHelp! Comments (8)mwrede: Did you make a decision and call them back the next day? I really hope not--it's too stressful to be rushed thinking this through! Let me first say that I've never done a remodel, and I tend to overthink things, even after I've made my decision. This is your personal space; it should look as close to your vision as possible. Your idea for the backsplash is better than their's--ditch the side pieces. Splashback isn't so great that they are needed. They really seem to me to be a waste of marble and $$. I wouldn't think mirrors all the way down would be the best look. The round mirrors will probably be too small for the large vanity, but I like the idea of mixing a round mirror over the shorter vanity and a rectangular over the longer one, but not splitting the longer into 3 pieces--too choppy, not as pleasing visually. (I don't know why, but picturing mirror/sconce/mirror/sconce/mirror makes me think of an old Italian style, maybe in a 70s Vegas hotel.) The photos show a sleeker, calmer bath taking shape--all those elements on the wall don't really fit that. (Oh, and yes--you must get some money cut off the bill. That's a given!)...See MoreHelp! Comments (7)Frankly, I like what they have proposed better than the original plan (assuming I understood it right...you wanted the curved end only on the short sidesplash and a straight end on the backsplash?) I think it looks symmetrical this way, as it's the open ends that have the curved piece...not one open end and one that deadends into the wall. So, if it were me...I'd take the credit (I assume you mean a discounted price...not a credit towards something else, which possibly you don't want or need?) and feel good about it. But, as they say, advice is only worth what you pay for it!...See MoreElizabeth Schneider Isbell
