slaters in my worm farm
Comments (2)sounds like they're the same as the sowbugs we have this side of the pond - a natural part of the decomposer community that do no harm whatever, aren't a problem for the worms, and are certainly not distrubing any balance, but merely taking advantage of the environment you've kindly provided them! Comments (7)Slaters! Thats a new one on me too ;o) Slaters are good guys or bad guys depending on the situation. Good when in the compost pile as they break down the organics for your use, bad guys when they munch on your plant roots. If they are interfering with the worms in some way I would be concerned otherwise they are helping you out. Don't fight nature but work with it to reach your desires. I would screen the compost if going into a seed bed to remove the ... slaters. You Auzzies ;o) The removed bugs would be enjoyed by your chickens if you have 'em. Comments (4)So glad folks appreciate insects, spiders, bugs instead of spraying them with insecticides. Around the yard of my new house there are hardly any insects except ants and an ocassional mosquito or fly. The cute little green lizards have disappeared that were here back in late winter. I am afraid that neighbors may be over using insecticides. I have complained to some of the neighbors that my squash plants are not being polinated due to lack of insects. Some of these neighbors go completely berzerk at the sight of one bug. There are some annuals and perennials, roses and veggies blooming in my yard and there are other plants that will be blooming soon. Its nice not to have any insect problems in my vegetable garden but something is very wrong without having hardly any insects around....See MoreBug in worm farm
Comments (2)I have no idea what it is but I figure if it were a common pest or worm predator someone here would have known what it was. Since no one has responded with an answer I guess you'll just have to wait and see what happens......See Moretheparsley
