Nahema has arrived. Is she going to be too big for space?

I just got my two 'Nahema Cl Rose' from Cool Roses. They are huge but very odd looking. the leaves are very curled and leathery feeling. Is this normal? She had a pretty warm 3 day trip from FL to MA. I don't think she's dead since the pith is nice and green but the leaves just feel so different from any other rose leaves. They aren't wilting or dried out feeling but thick feeling and stiff.

I might need to rethink where I'm planting them since many posters have stated that they grow more like a large shrub than a climber in colder garden zones. I was going to plant on both sides of this arbor but think she might get way too wide for it. Here's another section of my garden she could possibly go in. I can put in a trellis as a backstop against the fence if needed.

Any advice is appreciated as always.

The leaves of Nahema are know for this holly-like look, so it's totally normal. What huge, healthy plants. I would grow them along the fence which helps encourage blooming laterals. For myself, I don't see the need to add an additional trellis. I am not in your zone and don't yet have a Nahema plant, so I can't help you on hardiness or growth habit where you live. I'm charmed by what I see of your garden.

Wow, those are huge! I am not sure Nahema can climb tall here in zone 6a though. I planted one from Palatine in the garden this spring to test it out. Have another one in pot since last year, it's more than 7' tall. My friend in NC lost hers last winter, so did her friend. I might still plant my potted Nahema in a protected area since I have too many potted roses...... Kelly's Nahema made through in zone 4 last winter, that's a good news. Good luck to all of us growing Nahema in cold zones.

I thought our 2300 sq ft. house was just perfect for the 3 of us... - then we decided I traveled too much for work and opened up my own business - in the house - then things grew and I added an employee - in the house - Then hubby took early out from the University and expanded his tax & consulting practice - in the house - then his practice grew and he added a part ime employee - in the house - then things really got successful and some parts of the year he can have as many as 3 employees - in the house!!! Net effect is that our 4 bedroom house some days feels like a 1 bedroom office - we no longer have a home. We are building on 20 acres in the country - house with a good sized office wing. I've redesigned about a dozen times and can't seem to get it down below 5000 sq ft. So, for us (and the assorted clients, employees and visiting relatives) I guess the perfect size is 5000 sq ft.

Alrighty... I have been to JC Penny's (and a dz other stores) and am having trouble finding the right shade of grey. BUT- I have had no trouble finding blues!!!!! Would it be possible to bring blue into this room with window treatments and maybe a rug? These WT are from JC Penny's... they are not the right length, I just brought them home for color. It's a blue/grey... WDYT? Wide, just so you can see the color. and here they are more "closed" which is how I would hang them. I'm a little concerned they look "random"... like, where did I get the blue from? Thoughts? Also- we got our triple dresser. And *shudder* we got a new TV. We are not a big TV family (in fact, we just went from 1 TV to 2) but I like to watch the news as I get ready.... I know, I know... many of you are cringing. So am I. Until I get to watch the Today Show in the morning... I am feeling much more informed! ;) It's a beast. I also got a cute little (faux) orchid on clearence at Target. WDYT? How else do I decorate this wall (this is opposite the bed.)

Yes, I got to 42" by adding the 24" and 18" cabinet widths of cabinets 8 and 10. And yes, there will be a panel on the "dining room" sides of cabinets 7 and 9, the living room side of cabinet 10, and kitchen side of cabinet 8. I didn't think about the 1" overhang on the working sides of the island, thanks! I've seen the recommended minimum overhang for counter height seating is 15", and we "field tested" some of the kitchen displays at IKEA. None of them were 15" (two were between 11" and 13") and they didn't feel narrow or awkward even for my DH who is 6'1". I was hoping to save an 1"-1.5" there if possible. This home was built in 1952, and we learned after our first winter in the house last year that the exterior walls are not insulated... We've been told by one contractor that he can install a header and remove the studs, so we're planning on recessing about 3".

Thanks! Oh man we used to camp in Destin when we first got married. We stayed at Grayton Beach state park campground. We absolutely loved that area. We have not been over there in a long time but it's on our list! Will definitely take a look at campgulf site. We have been living in FREEDOM for a week now and really enjoying it. I wish the shower in this one was as nice and big as the 5th wheel but unfortunately it's a little tight especially for me. I need to get a shower stool because the wedge seat built in is a little dangerous it's slick. Other than that it's pretty comfortable. Mia and I both have some kind of stomach flu we are typing to get over. We got another offer on the house yesterday that we will probably take. It's so depressing to know how much it's really worth but knowing it will sell for so much less. The government has allocated several more millions of dollars to the area but not a single one of us has seen a dime of that money. They have given out a food card but the lines were miles long no way we could do that. And now there's a bunch of low life's that are stealing identities from flooded victims and claiming their fema money. They are not doing good checks on who they are giving the food cards to and they said thousands of them were given to people who were not victims. It's like we haven't been screwed enough these low life's jump in to make it even worse. Everyone here in my subdivision is leaving. It is going to be a very different place. So many lives are changing drastically. I really hope they will be able to survive it and thrive. I worry about many of them. We will do what ever we need to do it will be a very different life for us too.

Your new Nahema look wonderful! Yes, the leaves are normal for Nahema - one of her peculiarities. I ditto the fence suggestion. If the canes get tall you can fan them out, otherwise you can leave her upright as a shrub. I'd just provide a heaping mound of mulch at her base after the first or second hard freeze just to be safe.

Vaporvac- Thank you so much. it's definitely a work in progress and sorely neglected this year. We Just had our hose sided so I've been dealing with that long process. The job was started the first week of June and they're just finishing up now.

Summer and Dave- these are own root so fingers crossed that they'll survive here.

Thanks all for the suggestions of planting along the fence. This is nearest the porch so we can take advantage of that heavenly scent so many rave about!
