My great grandmother was Nevada (pro bounced Ne VAY DAH) but they called her "Vada". She died when my grandmother was small and since she was always called Vada, my grandmother didn't know her mother's full name -- I only found it out doing genealogical research. She was not named after the the state but rather a small town in Iowa. Her mom was named ELVESA. Everyone else had "regular names" -- Lydia, Elizabeth, Ethel, Anne

Kathy_in_MI, I know that you didn't think of this when asking but 'what is your maternal grandmother's first name' is a really common security or rescue question used when you forget some account password. Not trying to be difficult but if you are using that as a security question/answer, you should probably change it.

In reply to Martha, I wanted to mention that my grandmother's sister (I guess that would be my great-aunt) lived in that small town in Iowa that her great-grandmother was named after (Nevada). I was pretty young when I would visit there and probably wasn't even aware of the state of Nevada. As I got older, I probably didn't look too smart when I would mispronounce the state as Nuh VAY duh!

Great-aunt's name was Gertie. I'm afraid to say what grandma's name was, after the warnings about security and all.

I am cautious about a lot of "sharing", but I am not going to live under a rock! If you google my name you will find out some things about me, and that is just the way life is in this world.

Voter info is already out there as are the white pages of the the phone book, real estate transfers and anytime your name is in a newspaper or trade journal also. You can't control any of that. So there you are.

That's true, elizabeth, but why post information on a wide open forum such as this that would enable anyone to come up with your private address and phone number in a couple of minutes? In a few more minutes, even more detailed information could be discovered.
