Does anyone know the real name of these?
Comments (10)We have thousands of these 'moss roses' or portulaca. They have been reseeding themselves for around 10 years. They go down the front of our driveway bed and then around the sidewalk out to the driveway in front of the garage. My dh likes them but he gets a little panicky when they start popping up in the farm yard here and there down to the barn and around the machine sheds. And this is in full sun and lots of gravel. No water unless it rains. All colors. I try to tell him they are better than the wild purselane that grows all around here and is a pest in the veggie garden. We had these at the farm where I lived as a child in SD. One flower we never had to plant and could always rely on....See MoreGrandmother's Hat & Yolande d'Aragon rebloom
Comments (11)My newest bands are Grandmother's Hat and Le Vesuve and these twiglets are braving 125-degree heat in their full-sun location and that alone merits admiration. I don't know whether they'll bloom this year although I suspect they may, but I agree watching them grow and prosper over the years brings its own kind of pleasure, just as putting a 5-gallon plant in the ground and watching it bloom right away is a thrill of its own. I love hearing how little plants that seemed iffy have turned out wonderfully in their third year. Having something to look forward to can be so satisfying and Grandmother's Hat is a rose surrounded by so much mystique and admiration that I'm looking forward to being bowled over by this rose. Comments (6)Thank you Eric. I agree that Hall Tree's are much easier to maintain and perhaps more functional in the house than out and certainly require far less fertilization. I appreciate the information as I had asked him to spell the name of his tree to do an internet search - I will inform him that he needs to hang his jacket on his current cultivar found near the edge of his woods unless he would rather just learn the correct name of it. Don't you just love how things get mis-represented with the English language? I knew the garden-forum people were the greatest and would come up with an answer for us. And thanks for the direct link/picture....See MoreAnyone Here Remember Baby Sage? Her Grandmother Posted Here
Comments (142)I can't believe no one has mentioned "Doggie"!!He wasn't around long I think Spike banned him over something...I just remember when his wife came in and posted that he had passed away suddenly...He wrote the most incredible poem...I'll share it with ya... "Doctor Time" When we lose a loved one and we're in despair Doctor Time is already there He's treating us all, we're unaware When our loved one is gone and on their way Doctor Time helps us move on day to day He treats the anger, grief and sorrow with a medicine he calls "Tomorrow" As the days, weeks and months go by we just look back and wonder why Such a beautiful person had to die But deep inside we feel okay We have lived to see another day He's calmed the anger, grief and sorrow, we took the medicine he calls "Tomorrow" Doctor Time has one thing to say Time heals all wounds day by day I remember he posted this poem to someone's post who had lost a loved one and he died shortly thereafter......See More- 9 years ago
