What's everyone doing this week?
Comments (38)Dafy, if the cats are using spots that are bare earth, it helps a lot to deter them if you keep the area wet until they find somewhere else to go. First you need to clean up all the poopÂwhich youÂre probably doing anywayÂand then set a little sprinkler that covers the area and run it until the soilÂs wet enough that the cats arenÂt gonna want to dig in it. YouÂll need to run the sprinkler for a little while each day for a week or twoÂenough to keep the top few inches wet so theyÂll get their paws muddy if they dig in it. Ever since I moved in here the "neighborhood cats" have been pooping all over my front grass, and I still havenÂt figured out how to stop that, but this year the neighbor kids started using the bare dirt under my pine as a sandbox to play in, and once they got the soil loosened up, the cats decided it was a litter box! It took a couple weeks for me to realize what was going on, but one day I noticed a little "mountain" which I thought was from the kids, but when I went to flatten it back out I discovered if was a huge mound of cat poop. I cleaned it up and have been keeping it wet, and, for now at least, theyÂve found other "digs"Âso to speak! I hope once the surface hardens more again, they wonÂt come back even when it dries out. I like catsÂand dogs, and pretty much anything with four feet, but, IMO, people with cats should be required to control them the same way people with dogs are. I think part of the reason the cats gravitate to my front yard is because thereÂs a very tiny pond out thereÂwhich is just the right size to be a water dish! I now have it covered with chicken wire, and hope that will help with the poop-on-grass problem this summer. Fingers crossed! DonÂt work too hard! You sure do have a lot of projects going onÂlike a lot of the rest of the people around here. IÂm just working on planting a few things and getting stuff ready for the swap. Skybird P.S. Just saw Billie's post and I wish us city folk had a source for rabbit poop! My brother used to raise rabbits for 4-H---but that was 50 years ago!...See More'the real' health check-in: week 9 (for everyone!)
Comments (11)I'm continuing to hold my own. I had been 1 lb under my goal then up 1.6 but now I'm back down the .6 to my goal. I do much better when DH is out of town - easier to stick to my rigorous tracking of everything I eat plus no eating out. I was at the grocery store tonight getting some bread sliced at the bakery counter - where they had all kinds of gourmet desserts. I was practically drooling right onto the containers. I LOVE that stuff - I could eat a whole dessert in one evening. In fact one of the last "incidents" before the new healthier me in 2012 had to do with a french silk pie I bought for Christmas eve - kind of a tradition. Well I guess DH doesn't really like them any more so I ended up eating all but about 1/8th of the pie - in about 24 hours. Loved it but how disgusting is that. I did walk away without buying any dessert tonight. I will treat myself to a chewy chocolate calcium supplement instead..... I'm kind of detail oriented by nature and now I feel like I've taken that to a new level with weighing my food! I never did much of that in the past but with a lot of things that's what you have to do to tell how many portions you're really eating. It's kind of interesting - how much a portion is (and what I eat now) vs. how much I ate in the past. I've said it before and I'll say it again - unless you're an exercise maniac you just can't eat much and even maintain your weight let alone lose any. On the activity front I have had major problems with my leg. I think I mentioned before that I'm an above knee amputee and it's the prosthetic leg that's the problem. It's nine years old and everything is going to he!!. I got a new foot not too long ago but now my computerized knee is shot. It kind of works but needs to be replaced. The worst problem though is that it's custom fit to me and since I've lost the 8 lbs it's too big; i.e. falling off!! I started having that problem last summer but dropping the additional pounds has pushed it over the edge. They tried to temporarily fix that and made matters worse to the point I could barely walk - yikes!! I have come up with a reasonable temporary work around but now working feverishly to get a new prosthetic leg approved by my insurance company and constructed by my prosthetist. So the weather is starting to get a little warmer and I simply can't walk any where - which I hate. Oh well, happy I can just walk around the house and the office and that I have insurance that will cover most of the cost of the new leg. I'm not sure what's worse - knee problems with real legs or artificial legs. I kind of feel like it's easier to fix my knee problem - just buy a new one (easier as long as you have insurance coverage for such things)....See MoreHope everyone has a good week ahead
Comments (3)Hi Sally, I got to keep my K-bug 3 nights last week by Friday I was pooped. But I loved every minute. Brian is doing much better since they got the rod out of his leg the infection is slowly healing too. He is off the pain meds and doing well. I have been working on several different swaps for next month. And getting real excited about the retreat the end of the month with Carolyn in Texas. So I am fixin to get some UFO's for that. Nanci Six months, six days, 21 hours, 28 minutes and 16 seconds. 7595 cigarettes not smoked, saving $1,158.36. Life saved: 3 weeks, 5 days, 8 hours, 55 minutes....See MoreWhat's everyone working on this week?
Comments (18)I was going to come on last night and do some moaning - I was working on finishing the last 8 blocks, and, I RAN OUT of the fabric! I was piecing ever piece together that I could, and it just wasn't enough. I was so down - it was a fabric I picked up at an estate sale this summer so it was older and I was sure it would not even be carried by stores now. I was sooo grumpy though, that I sent myself to bed to get a better perspective. Well, had to go with DD#2 this afternoon for fabric for her halloween outfit (Lafonda - it's probably the last one I'll do for awhile, will kind of miss doing the dress-up costumes) and guess what, guess what! I found the EXACT fabric that I ran out of last night! There was just a little over a yard so I took the end of the bolt. It is a silly thing, but I was so thankful. Cindy - what is the OSU wallhanging (college team?)You make me tired just thinking of 200 pcs of applique! Do you and your mom work on alot of quilts together - I mean, do you complement each other with what each prefers to do, like one does piecing and the other applique? magothyrivergirl - You sound like me with giving yourself a tight schedule on taking on a painting project - I need to tackle a couple of those, but it will probably take a big event to move me into action. My house really needs a deep cleaning - I usually do it in the fall for when my parents come to visit, but this fall we went to see them so I am really behind. Jennifer - it's Wednesday night. I'm thinking of you as you work on those 3 bindings! Oh my! I hope your night is not too late! (I hate having to do things 2x also) toolgranny - I know what you mean about needing to wait for the bug to bite. I can slog through some things when I don't really feel like it, but it goes so much better when I'm in the zone. Sandra - I think you are very smart to keep it simple till after Christmas - I'm such a procrastinator and it is tiring. petalpatsy - What does it mean that you're still working on the same projects? It means they are some of your masterpieces! Well, I still can't find my missing fabric, but I'm so thankful to have the fabric I need to finish the blocks - off to the cutting table! Karlene (I'm tired too! It seems to be a theme for most of us - do you think it's the time of the year??)...See More- 9 years ago
