Here I am, once more

My HP Envy 5535 printer has suddenly got very selective about what it prints. It is wirelessly connected to an HP Inspiron.

When I attempt to print an email, it produces the 'template' features (icons etc.); but no text.

I attempted to print a page of "contacts"; and all it produced were the email address of each contact; no names, addresses, telephone numbers.

You guys have always set me straight. I am depending upon you once more.

I always though an Inspiron was a Dell...but what do I know.

Were you trying to print from a web page or your email program? Can you copy/paste the text you want into a word processor and print it from there?

You see my digital limitation?

I first noticed the failure when my wife printed a recipe off the internet. Everything except the text was reproduced beautifully.

I tried highlighting the missing text, copying (Ctrl C), then pasting (Ctrl V) on a page in "Word". Blank page! Mind you, as I listened to the printer, it sounded like it was printing - line by line. It does show ink in each cartridge.

"the only browns I ever have are leaves in the fall. My lot is only 33x90 feet including the house and a garage, so hoarding leaves all year is a bit out of the question." Instead of saving up leaves to compost with, just shred them and put them in your beds to serve as mulch and allow them to break down in place. (sheet composting) Some people shred them by making a pile and running over them with the lawnmower a couple of times. Other people put them in a large trash can and use a string trimmer to grind them up. We can all be jealous of the lucky folks who have a big dedicated chipper shredder. Anyway, take the shredded leaves and mulch your beds with them. If you like, you can mix the leaves into the top couple of inches of soil for a faster break down. (I have oaks and magnolias whose leaves break down incredibly slowly, so this helps in my case) Since you have heavy clay like me, you'll find that the earth worms just swarm in your beds to gobble up the shredded leaves, dragging that organic material deeper and really loosening up the soil and helping improve drainage. Adding used coffee grounds along with the leaves kicks that into turbo mode as earth worms absolutely love uncomposted coffee grounds. I divided some Japanese painted ferns this spring in an area where I always pile on the coffee grounds and the soil there was absolutely thick with worms. The more experience I have with sheet composting the more I think it's the way to go, especially for those of us trying to make a difference in heavy clay.

That is a pretty interesting observation and its as good of an intelligent guess as any. After it turned cold here a week back one Monarch and one BST (both non captive) stayed on their host plant to pupate after all the others had gone. I decided that they sensed no other would be crawling around on them so they stayed put.

I shop once a week, and plan my menus around what is on sale that week, and what I have stocked up in my pantry/freezer. I only stock up on sale items. At one point, I was feeding our family of 4 for $40 a week or less. Yes, it does take some planning - I sit down with the grocery sale paper, read through the whole thing, writing down anything that I might want to buy, and the sale price. Then I look at what's on my maybe-list, and decide what I could make with those things. Going through my cupboards at that point helps, because seeing what kinds of canned/packaged good you have already can spur your creativity. And that way, you already know what you *won't* have to buy. After I figure out the menu, then I add on extras and sale stock-up stuff, and then estimate the total. If it's too much, I have to tweak the list - maybe replace a recipe on the menu, or substitute a lower-priced item.

Sunflowers! Those flowers are, to me, an emblem of all that is good about Garden Party. When my son died in 2012, I got not only tons of virtual sunflowers from GPers but also actual sunflowers from Janet from MD. But they are as good for happy news as for sad, and I give them to folks whenever I can. Have a birthday? a wedding? a new baby? Sunflowers are the thing.

If this printer has a cartridge-cleaning feature, now would be the time to give it a try. Otherwise, I'd suggest new cartridges. I'm going to make a guess that you don't print much...true or false?

I tried all of the above; and gave up; and went out and bought a "Canon PIXMA MX 920". I hope you are suitably impressed. My wife is happy that she can once again print her recipes; and, as the saying goes, 'Happy wife = Happy life'.

The set up was quite effortless. After it was plugged in and turned on, I was prompted to press a button here and there; and it was all done.

I was reminded of the story of a Congressman and a chimpanzee who were sent up in a space ship. The instruction was quite basic. "When the green light goes on, the chimp carries out the command. When the red light goes on, the Congressman caries out the command". The craft was launched and for the first 15 minutes the green light kept coming on and the chimp made corrections to the trajectory, adjusted cabin pressure, jettisoned the booster rockets; and things like that. The Congressman was getting quite antsy; but the red light at last flashed on; and a stentorian voice commanded "Feed the chimpanzee!"
