Leatthercraft sofa in catalin copper, hickory chair
Comments (2)I am thinking of a Leathercraft sofa as well. I loved the 2670 but sadly my room is really narrow and it would look too big. going down a size to 929-00. are you happy with your sofa? it is hard here in NY to find a store that sells good furniture and I would love input from someone that has one. HCM I love but their sofas are really tall and deep......See MoreDoes Blonde Hickory Hardwood actually exist??
Comments (5)Thanks lazygardens - I feel a little better because most of the hickory floors I do not like are actually character grade. At least the clear grade won't have all the mineral streaks and knots. I'm not thrilled with the dark parts though as I thought that's what I was avoiding by ordering the blonde. I'm not sure I'm going to get the answer I want. I just called the distributor who actually ordered the wood and they said no, we'd have to order 2 or 3 times as much wood to get 100% blonde. They told me this batch is 40:60 lights to darks. Thank BUDDHA we got all 5" planks - I can't imagine how wild this would look in variable widths to boot. We almost went as narrow as 2 1/4....See MoreWhat Granite choice with natural Hickory cabinets?
Comments (10)Despite the fact that OP's DH is unsure about dark counters and movement, I thought I would offer a couple of pictures. We are in the process of upgrading our 17-year old kitchen. Original hickory cabinets from a local cabinet-maker are in perfect condition, so we kept them. They have yellowed somewhat. The glass-faced cabinet and cabinet beneath it (moveable) are a year old, made by the same individual. The counter on that is honed Cambrian Black (we believe -- it was a remnant) and the main part of the kitchen is honed Jet Mist. The overall tone of the counter reads charcoal gray, and the movement, though unmistakeable, is not overpowering. (Please ignore the light fixtures and very blue floor, which obviously have not been changed yet. Also hallway walls have since gone gray. ) From Kitchen Pics From Kitchen Pics From Kitchen Pics...See MoreNatural finish hickory floors with Oak 3-panel shaker doors
Comments (2)I find red oak to have a pink/cinnamon cast to it...whereas the maple/hickory are MUCH MORE gold. I foresee a clash of undertones with the red oak. Of course, if you PAINT THEM your fine. But a natural (even a stained finish) with red oak is going to cast a different colour of wood. The maple cabs, though a pale fleshy colour right now, WILL turn to a slightly darker GOLD. In a year or so, the cabs should be a very close gold/yellow match to the gold in the hickory (which is why I like the two woods put together). The red oak, will start out a pinky fleshy reddish hue...and stay that way. It will clash until you stain them or paint them. Your current front doors are OK-ish. The brown is just about right for the hickory. A snick on the reddish side but nothing I would lose sleep over. That's as "reddish" as you want to go with hickory. Red Oak will be worse until you paint....See MoreILoveRed
