Natural hickory...yes or no....pics inside
Comments (42)I think it looks beautiful but there is more to consider. Since there is so much variation you need to consider where the wood will be and what other "patterns" will be in the room or rooms. I think this flooring can look very busy especially since there are so many short boards creating so many seams. When this type of flooring is used with colors but not too many patterns and if the short boards are picked out and used in closets I think it is really wonderful. We are currently building and have been very discouraged with board lengths available. We have decided to go to a mill so we can get more of the longer boards. I love wood, I love natural things. I just think you need to be careful that you don't create a lot of chaos in whole. To only see the floor, it is too hard to know if everything else you have in mind works....See MoreHardware Choice - Natural Cherry Shaker Style Cabinets
Comments (3)We have cherry Shaker cabinets. Our style is neither traditional nor contemporary, but in-between. We have Top Knobs Princetonian pulls in their Brushed Satin Nickel finish, which has a pretty gleam, but doesn't show fingerprints. Also, my pet peeve is drawer pulls that have ends on them that catch on clothes, so I made sure to pick pulls that won't do that. DH's pet peeve is handles that aren't deep enough to get his fingers around - I was surprised when we went looked at hardware displays how many pulls are so close to the cabinet front that you can't get your fingers inside them (you may not have that pet peeve though, so your choices will be greater). Another thing we liked about the Princetonian pulls is that they come in a big selection of sizes from 3" up to 18-9/16" and everything in between. We ended up needing three different sizes in our kitchen for the different sized cabinets and drawers. I was also able to find a good number of websites that sold them at competitive prices (some of the other hardware I looked at was not sold as widely, and therefore was more expensive). We ended up buying them at qualitybath which I will link. Here is a link that might be useful: Top Knobs Princetonian Pulls at Quality Bath...See MoreNeed paint advice for Natural Hickory Cabinets
Comments (6)Miss Sophie I did as you suggested and pulled out a light of the greens (my honey would've had a cow if I chose the dark). Mgmum I would like to see the pic you are referring to. I did look up the witch hazel. It's beautiful. Starcraft I never thought I would like a light counter but it really ties in nicely. I am going to pick up a mustard colored sample just to compare it with the green and my fabrics. Thank you....See MoreNatural finish hickory floors with Oak 3-panel shaker doors
Comments (2)I find red oak to have a pink/cinnamon cast to it...whereas the maple/hickory are MUCH MORE gold. I foresee a clash of undertones with the red oak. Of course, if you PAINT THEM your fine. But a natural (even a stained finish) with red oak is going to cast a different colour of wood. The maple cabs, though a pale fleshy colour right now, WILL turn to a slightly darker GOLD. In a year or so, the cabs should be a very close gold/yellow match to the gold in the hickory (which is why I like the two woods put together). The red oak, will start out a pinky fleshy reddish hue...and stay that way. It will clash until you stain them or paint them. Your current front doors are OK-ish. The brown is just about right for the hickory. A snick on the reddish side but nothing I would lose sleep over. That's as "reddish" as you want to go with hickory. Red Oak will be worse until you paint....See Moreremodelfla
