My echeveria agavoides needs help!

Hi to all

I'm new here and also I'm new to gardening. I bought about a month ago a collection of succulents and they have been doing really. Where I live the humidity is high and its really hot but I've been trying to keep them well. Now, my problem if with my echeveria agaviodes (I'm pretty sure that's what it is, of not I would be more than glad to know what is is). About a week and ago it started showing black lines inside some leaves. Then one looks like it got punctured and later got soggy so I plucked it out. Afterwards another one did the same. Two of the inner leaves gut the black lines but haven't gotten soggy. The black lines tend to be underneath the leaves.

I got worried so I got a couple of healthy ones to see if i could propagate, but they seem to callous slower then other echeverias. I checked the roots and they were good no rot. I moved to another planter. The planter it was in was plastic inside the glaced one you see in the picture.

By any chance does anyone know what those black lines could be? Or what is wrong with it? Thank you all

I think you need a faster draining soil as your plants seem too wet. Most commonly recommended here is commercial cactus/succulent mix combined 50/50 with perlite or pumice from your nursery (pumice better). If you get perlite, rinse it through a sieve first to filter out tiniest particles.

Most commercial succulents do not come in the best soil, they come in soil to hold water and keep them alive until you get them home! They need the fast draining soil as described above. These are succulents.....you know, succulent means "juicy," right? They store water in their leaves and stems so if they have too much water around their roots, they just rot.

The first one looks as if it would like a slightly larger pot. Clay or plastic with drainage is good. I cannot comment on the pot size for the second one, but it does look to be potted too low. Is that mold on top of the soil?

If you buy pots, clay looks nice, but plastic can be good too because you can tell by lifting the pot how dry it is getting. A little more difficult with clay because of its weight. You will have to be very cautious about overwatering with your high humidity as they won't dry out as fast as in my zone with much lower humidity.

They look like nice plants and are savable if you work on them a bit. They look like they have gotten enough light, so do keep that up. All day full sun is probably too much, but morning sun is nice.

It is unfortunate your plant got sunburned. While it looks nasty, the meristem, the central growing portion, looks great. The other unfortunate thing is this is a very slow grower and will take some time to recover... and it will recover. Having said this and your recent bout with the sun, this plant will look its best with full sun; just acclimate it slowly into a full sun situation. Depending where you live, mid-day sun may be a bit too much.

angel78 Yes, that is Echeveria Black Prince - the leaves/color should be very dark red (almost black) - that's why it's called Black prince....I don't have as much sun as you and only part of the year they could be outside (pretty cold here in Canada!); but in summer they are outside in full sun. Crenda's get to be outside year round since she is in much warmer climate. As she pointed out too, they should get as much sun as possible, otherwise they will stay green (which is nice color too!), but they will also stretch (etoilate) since they will try to 'reach' for more sun/light - your plant is already doing that, it's visible in new growth. It is hard to give them enough sunlight in apartment, so maybe you can add some artificial light? It will not be as good as outside, but will help some. If you don't like the dark leaves, there are many succulents that are just green. These plants should be compact, with relatively short stem/stalk when conditions are right. Even totally green ones will start 'stretching' if they don't receive enough sunlight. But well draining soil is most important, and I hope you'll have chance to read thread Crenda pointed out to you. Succulents do not need much water, so don't worry about your shipment (hope it is not coming from someplace where there is winter now! In hot climate they may be rather too hot-suffocating if in the box for too long.) I have some cuttings just sitting there without soil for months, there is nothing wrong with them. This is very helpful - thanks to everyone that commented! I had no idea the leaves were meant to point upwards like that! I'll have to have a think about where I can put it that will provide more light as it's a biggish pot - not small enough for a windowsill. But I'm sure I can find somewhere. The soil I placed it in is potting compost for succulents and cacti and is described on the bag as free-draining. Thanks for everyone's thoughts - much appreciated!

It's sunburned. Just keep it in bright light outside. No harsh rays. Don't do anything extra like water it more. Luckily the leaves will eventually die off as it grows. Damage is done. I didn't move some of my Agavoides and they burned. It's almost summer so we're gettin closer to the sun so plants will burn if not acclimatized. When you want to start giving more sun. Start off with morning sun. By 12pm the plant should be in the shade. Whenever I burn plants I move them to a well lit area like my porch. When I start seeing new growth I will slowly give more light. I like to give them a break after a sun burn:). It happens;)

@socks(10a) I bought for the other succulents a bonsai soil that's been really good. This one didn't have it in the first pot but I put it in the second one. No it doesn't have mold maybe because of the lo light it looks like this. I guess I could bury it deeper since did take a couple of leaves off. Thank you so much for your help I've been doing everything possible to save it. Even took it outside the pot to let the roots dry just in case. Hope you have a great day.
