Should I keep complaining about this cabinet finish? (photos)
Comments (22)Acoreana- I think you got that exactly right. The black looks like it was done by an entirely different person and/or process. And perhaps it was. THe island was delivered about three weeks ago and I immediately complained about the red doors and sent them back. (I really should have taken photos of the red ones BEFORE the first fix. There were streaks in all different directions. In some places there were streaks that ran out from a center, like a radiating sun. I told him it looked like they had been attacked by a bear with large claws, not four little kids!) I fully explained how un-natural the wearing looked and that the center sections wouldn't even BE worn in most situations. About a week later the black cabs were delivered, and I was much much happier with the way they were done. I noticed the same thing you did- that there is a darker color under the black paint. Then yesterday, they re-delivered the red doors and made the HUGE mistake of INSTALLING them before getting my approval (I was at work.). It just annoys me. Had they brought them out and left them for my approval I would have not been as upset. BUt installing them just makes me mad. Thanks for letting me vent that. EllJays- I wish I would have seen the David T Smith gallery six months ago! I was holding my breath, just hoping they weren't based in CT or I would have been REALLY mad. THough it does look like they work all over the country....See MorePlease help me with my kitchen backsplash- large format tile!
Comments (22)I like large tile for backsplash and am doing the same for the same reason, I couldnt get a third slab they didn't have one. I got 24x24 and I'm paying to have a professional install as it's tricky. So far looks lovely! Sizing to space properly is critical I found out from my tiler and he was right. If you have found your perfect tile, you can make it work well. If it's just ok, then I would send it back and look at long narrow floor tiles, or 24x24 or bigger to get your look. That is just what I finished going through. Now I'm stumped on tile for my fireplace.....See MoreWould you complain about this color?
Comments (44)But she can raise an objection (complain is not the right word in this situation, in my opinion) if she ordered ivory but received white. :) Exactly how would you qualify -and prove- that what she got isn't "ivory" or "cream"? What you think/feel is "white" probably isn't "white" enough for me and I'd call it off-white, cream or maybe even ivory. And neither one of us would be right - or wrong. Unless we're dealing with hue/value/chroma color notations that have been ascertained according to proper standards, you can't argue color. The only way to argue color is by measuring the colors and comparing the color data values that result from the measurements. And it helps to have a physical reference, a color atlas of measured swatches to use as the benchmark. This thread does a great job outlining a huge and serious problem ALL online vendors are dealing with. I haven't found a good resource to cite but what I have gathered says about 22% of all online purchase returns are due to "color not as expected". So, that's kind of where everyone is at. If you don't like the color, then send it back. But not all online retailers make that easy. In many cases, the trouble and cost of returning the item is all on the consumer. As a result, many end up keeping the item despite the fact it wasn't the color they wanted. IME, I'd say gray sofas are 'up there' in terms of being the #1 surprising item. People think they're ordering a "neutral" warm gray sofa and what they actually get ends up having a giant punch in the eyeballs of discernible hue....See MoreEffective complaining - suggestions how to
Comments (43)Update: A manager from Michael’s called (this is Saturday morning). I told him what the issue was - we followed the instructions but the instructions were erroneous and the store refused to accept the item without a shipping label. I know that it is most effective if you ask for something concrete. So I asked him to arrange for UPS to come to my daughter’s home and pick up the item. He said he did not have that authority, but I could call Customer Service and ask them to do it. I suggested that he spend his time on the phone with Customer Service instead of my doing it. Or in the alternative, talk to his manager to have home pick up from UPS. He continuously apologized, but I could tell that he had no authority to do anything useful....See More- 9 years ago
