Need Help - Large Format Tile in Shower Floor
Comments (41)Birchpoint - Larger tile was from; http://www.flooranddecoroutlets.com/calacatta-porcelain-tile-12in-x-24in.html This web picture looks a lot more beige than my tiles which are more white. You can order a sample. The Floor tile is from Arizona tile: http://www.arizonatile.com/Assets/ProductImages/M/Misingi_Suber_464x464.jpg I think the combination of the taupe floor tile and the porcelain marble tile is the most stunning part of the bathroom. Though some might argue that we should have used mosaic in the bottom of the shower floor but I chose "form over function" for this. With the grab bars which I definitely use because I don't have good balance, I haven't fallen. There is a spray you can purchase on Amazon for tile or other possibly slippery surfaces that can be used if you want to be sure it is less slippery. My tile guy recommended it if i needed more traction. Maybe when I get a bit older, I will apply it for more safety. The size of the shower is one of the best parts of the remodel. 5ft X 5ft is the official size that allows one to say their shower fits the ADA standard. We didn't size ours for that reason but it turns out, it really is the perfect size for us. I love how when you are showering, all sides can be reached without moving too far yet there is still a nice feeling of spaciousness. Some of the pictures I posted in another thread may give you a better idea of the bathroom. Here Also, as I have mentioned in several other threads on GW, not having a shower door has turned out to be so wonderful and enhances the shower experience greatly. We had our contractor build the walls so we could add a shower door if we decided we wanted one but as it turns out, that is the VERY LAST THING we would ever want. To anyone who is in doubt, I say "try it, you will probably like it". Here is a link that might be useful: Hall bath...See MoreLarge white kitchen...PLEASE help me, I'm driving myself insane!!
Comments (13)How do you use the kitchen? Are you good about keeping everything off the counters that might stain or etch? I'm not, but a compromise might be to put marble on the island. Less chance that dishes will get left overnight or raspberry jam ends up under the toaster :) What about a darker wood island with a marble top? If you plan to have seating that would take care of little feet bumping against the island...and it would really set off the marble! For perimeters, maybe the darker gray with the white cabinets (so you don't look like you ran out of marble and tried to match it). As for the backsplash... consider whether you need something durable, behind the range. You might want to add marble subway tiles around the sink or do something different for the entire backsplash. Just a few ideas......See MoreHelp laying out a large format tile for a standard shower
Comments (9)We're interested in a 17x26" Porcelanosa tile. Would this be a good size and would the best layout be vertically because of the 17" width for our 34" shower? I'd say look for the same tile in a smaller size. 17" + 17" would give you one seam /grout line down the center of the shower, which would be odd looking. You may be looking to eliminate grout lines by using a large-scale tile -- and that's a good goal -- but this large tile and your small shower are out of proportion. As for LVT, I'm using it in my bathroom too. Why? Because I'm concerned about aging-in-place, and I want to use the same product throughout the whole house /avoid transitions and thresholds. True, I could use the same shower tile in the bathroom and still have the same number of products /transitions ... but I'd rather go with the softer, knee-and-hip-friendly product. Finally, I have tiled bathrooms now, and I don't enjoy the cold underfoot. Yes, I could go with heated tiles, but why not just use a product that isn't so cold in the first place? My linoleum kitchen floor isn't "cold" in the same way as tile....See MoreLarge format porcelain tile kitchen floor with Taj Mahal counters
Comments (27)Believe it or not, when the rubber hit the road, we decided to keep the original slate floors. We will be cleaning, sealing and enhancing them. I'll post photos when we're done....See MoreAnglophilia
