do dry grass clippings count as "brown" for composting

I'm getting started with a compost tumbler and have read that i should have a 4:1 ratio of brown to green material. This is kind of a silly question, but i have a pile of dried up light brown grass clippings--do they count as "brown" material for composting, or are they still categorically as "green" as when they are fresh? Thank you in advance for your advice!
