Comments (9)Hi All! Thanks for the great comments! Brooke - LOL! - Don't you just love it when they get that first burst of defiance? I think that makes you a SWMBO (She who must be obeyed)! Your boys are adorable! My son won't pose for anything lately without making a face -must be an 8 year old (I'm almost 9, Mom!)thing! Or, it's the fact that he is sick of remodeling :-)! And your puppy! One of my best friends named her son Genki - japanese for samurai warrior? I did order samples of a couple pulls, but not sure how they'll look. DH doesn't like cup pulls and not sure about cupboard latches either. Here's the link to the simple pulls I ordered - 2 diff. sizes in old silver finish: http://www.knobs4less.com/Liberty-Kitchen-Cabinet-Hardware/libp10210osc.html Truthfully, I'm not in love with them, but they don't have the drawbacks and foo-fooey details most others do. I also really like the imperfect quality of the finish, look aged. However, I think I'd like to have solid brass with some sort of nickel/silver finish - and, for the price, I'm thinking these are not brass. I did like the look of the marine ice box latch on the other thread.... hmmmm..... I think our problem is we think we can find something different if we keep looking. Truthfully, I found some very expensive ones I really liked, but we need so many, I can't justify the cost to myself. Same problem with lighting! I can't seem to find pendants I like! DH wants something simple. But I sure love your Dining chandelier! I think we just need to get out there and look more, there are certainly options. Problem is, we could go so many different directions. Oh, you will love this! My friend who is the fabricator, sent me an e-mail last week after the slabs arrived at their shop: "I'm going to steal your slabs from the shop and run away....... x K" - she loves the Calacatta too! cpang74 & rhome410 - Thanks - don't hold your breath on Monday, it might take me a few days to get the pics up! pbrisjar - Thanks to you too, I've often read your postings and followed your progress as well! Cute puppies there, for sure! Only 4 more days..... Thanks again all, you have been great support during this fun project!...See MoreTemplate Process: I'm On Track To Screw This Up.
Comments (5)Read the Stone Advice thread...http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg0402564914989.htm Also, try mocking up your sink & faucet. Someone here (quite a while ago) showed what they did...they mounted their sink on plywood b/w two saw horses (I think) and then played with the faucet & other fixtures until they had a setup they liked. Pay attention to what they're doing while templating...be sure they template everything that will be getting stone. Don't let them get away with just taking down the measurements of something even if it is standard. In our PR, I didn't realize they hadn't templated the sink like they should have...they just assumed it was a standard cabinet...but they forgot it was installed in a corner...so there shouldn't have been an overhang on the wall side...but no, they did it anyway and now I have a 2-1/2" overhang on the one end...the offered to redo it, but they absolutely refused to redo the BS b/c it was too expensive and too difficult to do! If I had redone the counter, the BS would have stuck out 1-1/4" past the counter!!! (Granite Source in Chantilly, VA, btw...stay away from them, I had so many problems with them!) Here is a link that might be useful: Where is your faucet? Please include pics!...See MoreShould I attend the templating for my granite?
Comments (12)As a Fabricator, I am always open to having clients present on the day of templating. This is good for both of us for a number of reasons - Like your project, IF there are more than one stone being used, which one goes where? Preference of overhang dimensions, radiused edges, pop outs (or bump outs - whatever you want to call them), etc. As far as the stone color goes - if there are areas of interest to the customer that they either DO or DO NOT want in areas of prominence - THAT is WAAAAAYYY good to know = BEFORE we cut the slabs up..... :0 When it comes to seams, I decide where they will go, and my customer accepts my decision. They look to me to advise where the semas should go, primarily because I have been doing this for 23 years now....... We also do things pretty "visually" to show our customers where the seams will be (with a layout drawing showing where the seams will be, as well as overhang dimensions, etc). We are also working on using a slab optimization program where we can shoot a digital picture of the slab (to scale) and then overlay WHERE the individual pieces that will make up the kitchen (or whatever the project is) will lay out on the slab. THIS is pretty critical in showing a customer that may not ever have had Granite before - what their vein matchup - or lack thereof - will actually look like BEFORE the slabs are even put on our water jet. Here's an example of what I like to call "Perpindicular Vein Match" - two pieces of Santo Cecillia that made up a 90 degree inside corner - we could not do a 45 degree mitered corner. The customer was cool with this, and we proceeded..... no problemo - happy customer!!! Bottomline as far as I am concerned is this - Should you be there on the day of Template? ABSOLUTELY Should you have the opportunity to have a say in what pieces get cut of where on each slabs? ABSOLUTELY Should you be cool with where the seams are going to go? ABSOLUTELY I have this saying: "If a customer KNOWS exactly what they are getting, (in your case - your Granite countertops) they won't be SHOCKED when they get it.... (once it's installed in YOUR home and you are loving it)" the more you know about the product that you are investing in before you make the investment - the more happy you'll be with your decision Hope that helps ya kevin...See Morewell, the second template was finally done
Comments (2)I too had my official second templating today. It was invigorating based on the fact that the man called to confirm and showed up just like he said. That alone made my day. Well, I think those of us who have waited a looong time and have had things go wrong along the way, have this mental end of year deadline and guess what? It ain't gonna happen; we just have to think past the next two weeks. I tell myself that by Easter, I will be able to host family. My work began just after Easter 2006. My old sink is too large for the current sink cabinet and is still sitting in the old laminate countertop. The countertop is held aloft, balanced on two 2 x 4's. Here's the lovely setup:...See MoreUser
