Close encounter with Mexican cats
Comments (6)Sherry, thanks for the suggestions. I tried rearing some of the yellow milkweed cats this year, but I gave up when they wouldn't eat. I didn't have a good habitat for them, but next trip I'll bring an enclosure. Experience has told me that BST cats are like Lay's potato chips -- never just one. I'm up to five now, and they are happily eating dill and fennel. The four little ones are in a plastic box that alfafa sprouts came in, and the big one is in a makeshift enclosure, the top of a five-liter water bottle over a plastic container of water with fennel stuck through a hole in the lid, all sitting on a paper plate. I continue to find the spiny ones on rose leaves, and I've found two so far on the doormat. They're coming after me where I live. Fortunately, I've had no lingering effects from the stings. Sandy, what a beautiful little butterfly. I hope you'll post more of your Laos photos -- or have I overlooked them? Here's a pic of the BST habitat. Comments (6)That's great! Mine haven't "said" anything yet but if I'm out there when they have the nerve to fly around to check me out, I do talk to them. I'd love to hear one one of these days... I did watch who I think is my regular female perched on one of my weigela branches about 30 minutes ago and she stayed there for at least 10 minutes while I futzed with the camera to try to get a closeup (the branch overhangs the rail and I couldn't get a good focus through the fencing). When I finally relented to go out to actually look at her in person, she flew off and then I saw why - there were 2 of them doing the famous chase... And my gosh, they were way way up in the sky above my building doing it too - at least 50ft above the roof (and I'm already up about 150ft from the ground)....See MoreClose Bluebird encounter

Comments (24)Jodi, I am beyond jealous. I LOVE that show. Watch it every week, every re-run. Those guys are outstanding to watch. The danger they are constantly in and the amount of hours that they can work non-stop is astounding. I told my husband I want to go to the Bering Sea and sail on one of those crab boats. I told my whole family that. Every single one of them said I was insane. I don't want to be on it in the middle of the night with 40' waves, but I'd do it in calmer seas in a heartbeat. My luck I'd get seasick and puke my guts up the whole time. I want to throw that hook out!!! LOL Thanks for the pics they are absolutely wonderful. Katlan...See MoreElmer J Fudd
