22' doors?

How much clearance is needed for the doors? Simple calculation would be the depth of the two sofas plus the width of the coffee table plus 3 feet (2 x 18") for the space between each sofa and the table plus 4 - 6 feet (2 x 2' or 2 x 3') to walk behind the sofas. Let's say your sofas are 3 feet from front to back and your coffee table is 2 feet wide, you would need a 15' - 17' wide room.

If your sofas are smaller and you can find an 18" wide coffee table, you might make 13' work, but it will be tight.

Our LR is 14x25, and there is no way I would be able to do two sofas facing each other. And I wouldn't even have to float ours. I don't think that arrangement will work for you.

How many doors on the long wall? Can you orient the sofas/chairs between them and place them against the walls? (I know that's verboten in good interior design but narrow spaces don't always let you follow the rules.)

Our living room is about 12x20, with a window seat and cabinets along one of the short walls and one door on each of the other walls. We've tried about 6 different set-ups over the years (one sofa & a big chair; two sofas arranged on perpendicular walls; a small sectional and a chair; etc etc.) Right now we have 2 sofas facing each other and it seems to work best. Here's a photo - there's an interior doorway directly opposite the exterior door, and the sofas are the longest and deepest I could find because of the way we use the room. There's a TV on the wall that's not shown.

Most traditional houses or open circulation plan houses are designed for most of the furniture to be anchored by walls, unless the rooms are very large.

It's only with the advent of the open wall-less great room plan that people started floating large sofas in modest sized rooms.

I agree with Pal, our living room is 12 x 24 and has windows and doors in all but one 24 foot wall. I opted for an L shapped sectional. I don't have to float it, but I think with 13 feet, that could be an option for you

Unless you can copy or adapt schoolhouse's arrangement (which is very pleasing BTW), I don't see how you can accommodate two sofas facing each other in your space. Good luck and Lela se post updates!

any. it is tight but can be barely done. one on wall 36" deep 48" between - heavy squeeze, then another 36". that is 10' leaving you 3' to pass on one side.

My living room is 14x22 and I have two sofas facing each other. One is techincally a chaise but its 79" long and 50" deep, which is very deep and only slightly shorter than the average sofa. My sofa is 89" long and 38" deep. Somehow that does not seem narrow at all to me. I have my sofa and chaise facing each other and not against any walls. There is a fireplace but no built-ins. The backs of my sofa and chaise are towards the 14' wall.

I love smalloldhouse's layout! That could work for you, but I agree floating won't work.
