do they make henna "pens"? working thru experience of first broken bone and first surgery in my LIFE! have incision that runs from top of left shoulder almost to elbow. i don'y know what it'll look like fully healed... really don't care, honestly. someone suggested a tattoo, but that is NOT happening. thinking a LONG, free-form doodle the whole length... if i can find henna in pen form... like a sharpie?

I'm so sorry for your broken bone. The whole ordeal sounds dreadful. I hurt just thinking about it. That's about the only malady I've never had...and hope I never do have.

I understand your wish to doodle over the scar but remember...the scar will fade in time. That I can personally attest to. I don't know how permanent henna is but you may want to reconsider your plan. Also, as a precautionary measure...do check with your Dr before you put anything over or near the scar. I'd be concerned about infection or some other subcutaneous disruption.

Beyond all of that...I hope you heal well and quickly.

I did a quick search (maybe you did, too?) and came up with nothing. I think your best bet is to sit down with a list of nurseries and start making calls. If all else fails, I'm sure you can find these plants online.

FWIW, I recently got a henna plant, read up about care, then nearly killed it. The websites all said it's a desert plant and likes it hot and dry. So I put it in my greenhouse and didn't water it. It nearly died of thirst. So I took it out and put it where it would get a little rain (we get 170" a year here). Again, wilt city. So now I have it next to my pond, and when it looks thirsty I dunk it. Much happier.

not an attempt to hide the scar... probably couldn't care less. tho pretty dramatic now, was pretty gruesome 2 weeks ago for first follow-up when told it looked "really good"... NOT pretty. absolutely will get OK from doctor before any "decorative painting"!

Before you do something to it yourself, please give it some time. Lots of time. Its going to heal incrementally if you're older than about 4 years ;0) I had hip surgery 12 years ago. At the end of a year, I could barely find the scar. Your incision site will change in depth, width, color. I don't have any experience with henna, but something is telling me you shouldn't mess with the tissue color there - at least not for a while. Don't be impatient, just heal and be happy for now. Please.

Ditto what morz8 said! I'll add that if you seriously consider using a henna marker on the scar, know that it will attract lots of attention to your arm. You might consider having a professional do the job.....unless you are an artist yourself.

How is the arm feeling? I wish you a speedy recovery.

Henna is surface, not subcutaneous, it will wear off. I'd just not put it directly on the scar. Not until it completely heals. An inch or more away may help distract viewing of the scar.

I still don't understand why you want to draw on your previously broken arm. Am I missing something?

guess anticipating a "conversation starter"?? incision goes from top of shoulder to about an inch above bend of elbow. guess one of reasons is about my "job". i'm a TA with special needs kids. i know the scar will fade significantly over time & i'm well over 4 yo! whether it's all that noticeable isn't a big concern to me, but thought being light hearted about it might be needed if it scares kids?? definitely NOT interested in anything permanent.

So glad I came back to check on this thread. I didn't know your profession. Little kidlets...no matter what their needs may be...are super curious about everything. Personally...I'm delighted with your intended "presentation". Congratulations for a wonderfully inventive idea. If I were a little kid...I'd love to be in your care. :-)

I love your idea of being lighthearted about it! Have fun with your henna pen and I hope you heal well. If anything, it will remind the kids not to grab you tightly on that side, and in a friendly way.
