Happy Fourth of July
Comments (17)Maryl - The main reason I bought Judy's Jewel was to cross with former Valentine Sweetheart. It's in the same color class, but larger. So the fact it doesn't multiply much and isn't very tall isn't important to me. It's a big fader too, where former VS holds its color much better. I'm trying to get a taller Val. Swhrt with a bloom size of 7 inches or more. I have some buds on JJ, but I don't know if they'll make it in this heat. I've also crossed it with Dancing Flamingo both seasons. Comments (5)The Japanese hige type varieties aren't quite as aggressive as the old fashioned singles. A few are pretty prolific with seed but most aren't. There's also the blue Clitoria vine. It also comes in a double flower. I grow the single blue up and across my veggie garden gate every spring. I leave it loose at the bottom of the vine so I can open and close the gate lol. I would recommend Blue Sky Vine but mine goes a little nuts here lol....See MoreHappy Fourth of July!
Comments (17)Here are mini flags in the front bed with the coleus. The 4th of July parade I normally do with the Mustang club was canceled, no surprise, so that’s a little sad. I really look forward to it every year. We are done super early by 10:30. DH is grilling now before it gets to the predicted high of 94. I did 8:30 Zumba step aerobics on the deck, and it was pretty hot already. We have an industrial fan we can use on the deck. It also helps keep the mosquitoes away....See MoreHappy Fourth of July!
Comments (8)Lol, the 'bang'. Such a different 4th than we have ever experienced....but we knew that. We did consider a month ago to get some friends together that would be up for very careful lock-down conditions. Increase our close friends 'bubble'. We are all home with no-contact ever....just deliveries. NY is serious, especially all our friends. I think it is just a mood. We care enough for each other to not really need a social event right now. We just can't imagine the 4th or any social event without the usual hugs and close contact love. Maybe a bit nervous that just one friend might do a 'cheat'. (getting gas, going in a market last minute). We are doing so well in NYState I want to keep being responsible. Seems extreme for some. I need a close friend base unit like us, that orders on-line delivery, no contact in a store or grocery, two weeks minimal. We might try in a few weeks. I like what David Brooks said, "If you don’t breathe the spirit of the nation, if you don’t have a fierce sense of belonging to each other, you’re not going to sacrifice for the common good. We’re confronted with a succession of wicked problems and it turns out we’re not even capable of putting on a friggin’ mask."...See Moreyoyobon_gw
